ok i received my test kit today and tested my ph which was 8.0 amonia was 0.25 is this gonna be harmful to my fish or what?

i think a frontosa would be too big i only have a 4ft tank 56 gallon i think

ok piper thanks but why woul it matter if the rings got really dirty would that not just mean more beneficial bacteria ?

thanks rubbut . the ext filter that came with my aquarium only has two baskets you see and i have a fluval 4 internal running aswell so that could have sponge and the external could have the ceramic rings do you think thats a good idea or not rabbut?

i have a rena xp2 external filter and a fluval 4 internal in my 4 ft tank and i am going to be keeping african cichlids and i was thinking would it be ok to remove the sponges from the rena xp2 and just fill the media baskets with siporax but leave the sponges in the fluval ? do you think this...

well im not doing a fishless cycle as i am old school . i only have four cichlids in a four foot tank so that will be ok until the biological filter kicks right in lol i will hardly feed them this week so that should keep amonia and nitrates to 0 what do you guys think of my philosophy ?

yes i got 4 african cichlids today and they seem to be doing fine 2 of them are jewel cichlids and the other 2 i dont know bollox to the fishless cycle !

well the measurements were supposed to be the sides 51 cm but actually that measurement was from the very front of the bow front you see so in actual fact the sides were only 31 cm so its alot smaller than i was expecting . by the way the aquarium with stand lights cabinet heater and ext filter...

would clown loaches be happy in beside african cichlids and what ph do clowns like ?

i got the rena 120 panoramic i must say i thought it was gonna be wider than it is so its not ideal also i only received one section of the juwel stone granite background so i cant fill the damn thing up and i have already spent about £800 on everything with filters and water treatments and food...

no i didnt mean that ,what i meant was if you do a water change every day how often do you clean your filter?

you see how some discus keepers change water on a daily basis how often do they clean their ext filters ?

if you use rain water instead of tap water is it ok to collect rain water from the gutter on my garden shed ?

well i have a water barrel under the outlet of the gutter on my shed will i be better using this water than tap water ? did i hear someone say i would have to add nutrients or minerals to this water ?

thanks very much guys for your replies . its not that theres anything wrong with my tap water it was just that i thought river water would be good because it would have no chlorine in it and i keep hearing about r o units and that,and i am just trying to explore every possibility before i decide...

hello people , i was considering getting some discus for my new 76 gallon aquarium and was wondering if i used water from the river for water changes would this be good or bad . or better or worse than useing tap water ?what do yous think

when my rainbow ciclids were breeding they went very dark in colour also and were shaking their heads

does anyone think sand could damage the impeler of an external filter or could it make the filter noisier ? i want to use sand in my new aquarium but was thinking it might not be worth it for this reason.

do you think bow fronted ones are better or worse than flat fronted ones?

sorry guys one more question i have is do you have to be carefull to not let any particles of sand to get into your filter because i would imagine if any did it could make the filter really noisey ,what do you guys think ?

thanks for those replies guys . another question ,can you use one of them gravel hoovers when syphoning a water change or does the sand get sucked up with the excrement ? what colour is the argos sand and do you have to sterilise it or anything before introducing it to the tank?

i am gonna get 4 clown loaches and i would prefer to have sand in my aquarium instead of gravel but i was wondering if this would increase the chance of my fish getting diseases as the excrement would lie on top of the sand instead of falling between the gravel ? white spot is my main concern

you can keep clown loaches with them because they have a sharp knife like thing on the top of them which sticks up and cuts predators so an oscar might try to eat them initially but it will soon learn to leave them alone .

hi there , i have just ordered a rena aquarium complete with heater,filter ,light , hood etc and i was wondering if you have less chance of clown loaches getting white spot if you have undergravel filtration ?
