hey can someone please tell me where to get some sand for my aquarium cheap ?
thanks .

If you are in the UK you can buy playsand from Argos 2.49 for 15 kg. I use it and it looks great.

I agree, i changed to Argos sand a while back and i still love it!! ;)

play sand is the cheapest. Pool filter sand is also relatively cheap.

thanks for those replies guys .
another question ,can you use one of them gravel hoovers when syphoning a water change or does the sand get sucked up with the excrement ?
what colour is the argos sand and do you have to sterilise it or anything before introducing it to the tank?

sorry guys one more question i have is do you have to be carefull to not let any particles of sand to get into your filter because i would imagine if any did it could make the filter really noisey ,what do you guys think ?

hi i have white sand in my tank , i use silicon sand it maintains its own PH levels and only costs 3.15 at a local fish store , i bought 1 bag and that was enough to fill my 3ft tank and still had 1/4 of the bag left over , yes the gravel vacs will suck up the sand but if u empty the bucket carefully u can keep the sand in the bottom and tip it back into your tank , iv never had any experience so far with sand going into the filter and all my tanks have sand bases , see if anyone else has anything to say.

I got argos play sand in all mine, its great.......

easy to do as well, simply fill a bucket with the sand, add water, swirl round with hand, keep doing this (empty water once throthed and refill with clean) until the yellow throth has gone and water is clear.

Here is argos sand in my tank

For cleaning I just use a syphon pipe and hold it abpout 1cm above the sand. That way you just get the debris.
