yes i got 4 african cichlids today and they seem to be doing fine
2 of them are jewel cichlids and the other 2 i dont know
bollox to the fishless cycle !

well im not doing a fishless cycle as i am old school .
i only have four cichlids in a four foot tank so that will be ok until the biological filter kicks right in lol
i will hardly feed them this week so that should keep amonia and nitrates to 0
what do you guys think of my philosophy ?

If I dont do fishless cycle I substitute with using mature media, if your not doing either then I would suggest a CRAP load of water changes, like 50% once or twice a day.

good thing i'm not a fish-- :hyper:
good luck with the philosophy
it's cool!!!

:D

i have ordered a test kit but it aint here yet so i am not gonna feed them very much to start with because im sure they would rather be hungry than killed by ammonia eh !
i will try to learn how to post pictures up asap.
they all seem fine today although they keep swimming up and down and up and down , the juwel cichlids seem to be happiest .
i have a white yellowish cichlid in there and that was rubbing its side on the coral sand substrate and i know thats normally what they do when they have white spot but there are no marks or white dots on it but i am monitoring the situation .

ok i received my test kit today and tested my ph which was 8.0
amonia was 0.25 is this gonna be harmful to my fish or what?
