    White stringy stuff on gravel

I vary it alot. Some flakes, some blood worm, some tubifex (once in a while). I also put in a few shrimp pellets or algae wafers now and then. I don't think I'm overfeeding. I only feed once to twice a day, and only as much as they can polish off pretty quickly. Now some flakes do get stuck...

    White stringy stuff on gravel

I had the beginnings of some white stringy stuff here and there on the gravel last week so I did a nice thorough gravel vacuuming. But today, after a few days away, I came home to find that the tank is carpeted in this stuff. My best guess is some kind of fungus. The fish seem OK, and water...

    baby apple snails

I have a snail that is supposed to be a gold Inca, and it really LOOKS like one, except that it has grown from the size of a golf ball to the sixe of a peach!!! It's huge, but DARN if it isn't the most interesting and entertaining creature inthe tank.

    time for a rant

It's funny, because all the fish tanks I've ever seen in doctors and dentists offices have been damn nice. Usually very obvious that they have an aquarium service.

    Erm.. Fish Removal "Tool"?

Well it's going to come in writing, so that makes it more than just an idea. I went to a copyright and patent seminar once for writers and inventors. Basically, what they said about ideas, writing, etc, is that anything you come up with has an implied copyright. For example, if you write a a...

    Erm.. Fish Removal "Tool"?

BTW, what if the idea (if it's a real idea and not BS) comes in a package that says, by opening this package you agree to the following license agreement, etc, and the license "prevents" you from sharing. Also, be careful since, license or no license, he can probably claim copyright...

    Neon Tetra troubles

MY Silvertips sometimes take too much bloodworm. They sink to the bottom and chew on it for a while. None have died from that. No NTD in the tank, though.

My Solution to the Python problem

What I did was use a mass dose of Bio-Coat. It's a stress coater that says you can't overdose it and it dechlorinates (chlorine and chloramine). I put it in the tank before pumping the water back in. Since the concentration is high, the new water should be dechloricated on contact and the fish...

    Petsmart.com price vs store price

Big Als has GREAT prices, but their shipping is painfully slow for some reason, and they do it signature required so you have to be home, but they don't give out tracking numbers unless you beg and plead and send multiple emails so you don't know WHEN to be home. If you have an office to go to I...

Python. What a piece of junk.

I wouldn't say it's a wate of money. I'd just say it could be made a little stronger.

Python. What a piece of junk.

Actually the towel is just to keep the cement from scratching the thing up or rubbing on the hose, etc if it gets shuffled around. (Totally unnecessary, but I think it will keep it nicer for longer.) The end of the pump though hangs off the edge of the sidewalk and lets the water run straight...

Python. What a piece of junk.

I think you are right this thing is not exactly rocket science. You could build one pretty easily. It might be a little bulkier though. Don't know about price though.

Python. What a piece of junk.

Made a diagram so I can explain better which part busted. I think if you take the top of the pump apart you will see what I mean about a small piece of plastic carying a whole lot of load during operation.

Python. What a piece of junk.

Lets hope so. Still, make it out of brass, and there is not too high a chance of a defective plastic bit. Of course, then there would be a lot less chance of selling oodles and oodles of replacement parts too...

Python. What a piece of junk.

I had to buy a whole new "pump" unit to get the one little piece of plastic. Once the thing is operating, it really does save a HELL OF A LOT OF TIME. I'm not criticising the concept of the Python, nor am I saying they don't work, because they definitely do!!!! What I'm saying is that the...

Python. What a piece of junk.

After all the recommendations I've read of this Python thing, I have to say that I'm disapointed that it's so poorly made. Mine arrived today and within 5 minutes of hooking it up, and within 20 minutes of it arriving, it broke. CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP plastic is the main culprit. The part which...

Tried out a new filter. Not sure about results

Your Gouramie could be the twin to mine. What sex is that and how do you tell that particular breed apart? I need to get mine a mate so he/she won't hide so much and be so damned aggressive.

    Silvertip Tetras

Mine schooled for about a week until hey were comfortbale. Then they spent a few weeks fighting each other like cats and dogs. Now they stay away from each other except at feeding time. I find that anytime the water gets over about 77-78 degrees for whatever reason, the fighting explodes all...

    Last neon died.

Well, I had 6 neons to start. ONe died the first week, probably from stress. 4 more were massacred by me in the great Ick meds overdose caper about a month ago. We decided not to replace them, but the lst one was a vigorous little fish, very energetic. He would school with whoever would let...

LFS never heard of fishless cycling!

After shopping around for filters a few months ago, I wouldn't even CONSIDER buying a filter at a brick and mortar retail store at this point. Online is the way to go. LFS's and chain stores get 75 US to 150 US for an Emperor 280 while online they are about 35 US plus shipping (which isn't much).

Inca Snail wiht a Ridiculous Growth Spurt?

The insane growth continues! This guy is piling on shell fast! Anyone knw if this is normal? I assume this snail is just really really happy with his diet. HE can polish off an algae wafer in about a minute flat.

    OTO's not touching brown algae.

Caught them! They are in fact eating the brown "algae". I now realize this as the glass on the left side of the tank is now showing the beginnings of a thin coating but the right side where the two Oto's spend all there time is sparkling clean. I think I'm going to need a couple more of these...

    OTO's not touching brown algae.

Yes, I know it's diatoms, but the funny thing is that source after source that I've looked at about the stuff and also many of the sources about Oto's say that they are supposed to love this stuff. Oh well. More bad info being propgated I guess.

    OTO's not touching brown algae.

IT sounds stupid, but I got all excited when I noticed that brown algae had taken over a couple of my decorations. I got excited because I was looking for an excude to buy a couple of oto's. I got 2 of them in a 40 gallon US. But so far they haven't touched the brown algae. They spend all...

Inca Snail wiht a Ridiculous Growth Spurt?

I got what was labeled as an Inca snail about a week and a half ago. This thing has piled on about an inch of shell along the front side since I got it. The new shell looks softer than the old shell, and it seems to be growing so fast that there are what almost look like stretch whitish marks...

    RRR PETSMART!!!!

Ah life lessons. Shopping a little before you buy things is definitely something that comes harder to some of us than others. African Clawed Frogs on the news

This isn't a too large for tank issue. And most of the suspected releasers are people that should know better. Peopl like researchers studying the frogs, and LFS owners who might have received the frogs by mistake (or on purpose).

Strange question. Anyone here use a emperor 330

I have an Emperor 280 (It's a single wheel model), and before I bought it I sent repeated emails to MarineLand asking for dimensions. At first they wouldn't even reply, but I persisted. Then they acted like this was a difficult question, and couldn't understand why I was asking for such rare...

    Am I overstcocked?

I have a 40 with an Emperor 330 and some extra aeration. My list of fish is below. I'd like to get another Rainbowfish, and maybe a mate for the Gourami. Of course, there are 600 other fish I'd like, but hey, limits are limits right? :) But I don't know what is overstocked and what isn't...

    Mystery Fry

I read somewhere online that Bosemani fry will favor the surface. Now that could be someone talking out their bums, but that's where these guys are. There pretty colorless, so who knows. The only fry I ever had were some kind of Mollies about 15 years ago. Those ones all apeared in the tank...

    Mystery Fry

Bought a Boesemani Rainbowfish today. Came with two free mystery fry. I suspect these may be two more Rainbows since that is almost all that was in the tank other than some sucker fish and a couple catfish. These fry love the surface and are hiding behind the filter intake. I'd like to...
