tds meter will check for unwanted chemicals etc that come through ro systems this includes silicates when filters are old etc, i change mine every 6>7 mth as i do live in a hard water area i also use a inline tds meter along with taking samples every so often checking with a pen like tds tester

also if tds is not zero the first thing to leak through is silicate someone plz quote me if im wrong. this could cause diatoms as the thrive on this. get a tds meter and check tds of water you get from lfs or ask them to test while your there.

where do you get ur ro water from have you checked with tds tester?

total disolved solids have u used a tds meter to check ro???

does sound like diatoms perhaps the ro water you use is not 0 tds

it should only need calibrating once but check from time to time as knocking them can sometimes throw them out, they usually come already calibrated but i would check with where u got it from. you will need to buy calibration fluid for calibrating

i find that the triplus looks better when used on its own although i have been using the triplus and the arcadia marine blue bulb together, what i was going to do is use triplus during the day and have the marine blue to come on at night time untill about 23.00 then all lights off

great news the skimmer has finaly started to skim perhaps they need a year to bed in???

you would have to get water that would be zero tds so get yourself a tester i would not of thought water from drinking machines would be zero as there filter system would be different to ro systems think they would use carbon and oudor filters

i did read somewhere that you can use tap water if you want fish only set up but have to Dechlorinator. but if you want live rock and corals use ro water someone plz quote me if im wrong though

well when you have had two within 1yr and has not skimmed once and starts and stops when it pleases i think what a waste of money. so only fit for the bin. perhaps im just unlucky

i have an orca 450 nano tank and the stock skimmer was rubbish so changed it for the wg 310 skimmer well i have had two of these in 1yr and the were both cr*p. has anyone tried to fit the v2 skim 120 in this nano tank bearing in mind i still need the lid to fit
