Crazy Hermit Crab!

Got home from work on Saturday and found a strange growth on one of my Trochus snails.........

Have you got some larger shells for your hermits?

That's funny but.. Hermits can attack snails for the shells (that's why sogan asked I think!) I lost my whole snail population to this, only a conch survived and he is a bad #16#####!!

You need to provide all hermit crabs with larger shells than the ones they came in, otherwise like lewiss witnessed they will attack kill and eat any snails they come across.

You can buy a bag of shells from lfs but if you ask nicely they night give you a few out if their tanks.

I've got an entire housing estate in the corner of my tank. Some of shells are that big some of the hermits will have to take out a mortgage! Lol

yep deffo put some bigger shells in as mine are always swapping houses leaving my snails alone

I have loads of shells in with them

My little niece collects them for me when she goes to the beach (which get RO boiled) - got loads of various sizes!

I thought he was trying to attack the snail but it seemed he was just picking algae off of his shell, not one fatality so far
