I ended up having to get some danios to be dither fish as my XL female platy was being a bit of a bossy boot. It has worked as she has calmed down a lot and given confidence to the other fish who used to cower in the corner.

Hi all, a silly question I know but just want to make sure. :blush: I have 3 red platy females. I also have two male guppies, orange fantails. The guppies are following my platies around and are trying to inseminate them, even though 1 platy, Big Momma, is huge in comparison. Will they succeed?

I have used coral sand but didn't find it that effective. It didn't raise the ph level at all. I even tried using ph7 stabiliser but that didn't work either. I think until the tannin in the bogwood leaches out it will lower the ph continuously. I found buffering to little effect. Hope it...

Thanks guys, its actually for my snails as the acidity corrodes their shells. But when you mentioned wood Barracuda, I have bogwood which will have been preserved in peaty acidic water. A lightbulb has gone on. Next moves are get rid of filter, get some limestone and take my wood out. Cheers.
