Hi there folks,

Need some guidance in timing in when to move tanks. Currently I have a Rekord 70 (2') with built in filter but have just bought a 4' tank and an eheim internal filter. I have 2/3 rds filled the 4' tank with mixture of water from my old tank and fresh water (dechlorinated) with sand at the bottom. I also gently squeezed my Rekord filter in the new tank to release some bacteria. I have added some Cycle liquid to boost bacteria. I have put in 3 plants at the mo.

Will I need to wait around the six week mark to add fish, as in if you were starting to cycle from scratch? Or will adding Cycle and some bacteria from my old tank speed things up a bit? On the Cycle bottle it indicates about two weeks if cycling tank from scratch. Or do I just do the water test thing every day and see what happens.

Will do what ever is best for fish not even considering buying new ones until after Xmas.
Thanx. Xanthe

Moving all my fish across ( whenever it's ok) and giving smaller tank to my mother in law.

Are you going to be putting all the fish from the old tank into the new tank, or are you having the new tank as a second tank.

I would put the Eheim in your old tank with the nosel pointed upwards (just so that the extra waterflow doesn't upset your fish).
And run it alongside(with) the filter that's in there for a about 3 weeks. Then i would cut up one of the filter sponges thats in the old filter and place it in the grey compartment that is in the top section of the Eheim. Then i would transfer all the water, substrate,Eheim and then fish to the new tank.

Thats how i would do it.
