    55 Gallon - Tank Stand

Having built a 55g tank stand myself, I can say that your last one is great. Mine doesn't have a middle shelf, but I can say you'll definitely want one of the shelves to be pretty tall. I didn't bother buying better wood, so we primered everything, and painted the outside black. I'm very...

    Aquaclear 70

Well for some reason it just stopped blowing air again, even at the lower water level that it was operating at for the majority of the afternoon :/ The tube fits perfectly, and I have had the venturi valve removed since it stopped blowing air a couple hours ago. I can very easily blow air...

    Aquaclear 70

I recently got the AquaClear 70 powerhead however I'm having a problem with the aeration feature. The out-take of the powerhead is about 3" below the surface of the water, however it seems like it's too much pressure for it to get the power to aerate. I've turned it up, however I can't lift the...

    Updated: Another Tank Journal

Well, it's been a long time. Our tank has settled down a lot, I've had a chance to experiment with the co2 to get it just right, as high as possible before the fish start gasping. Below is our water chemistry: PH: 7.0 Ammonia: 0 ppm Nitrite: 0 ppm Nitrate: >0 ppm (slightly over) KH: 8.0 dKH...

    Red Cabomba

I was stoked to find Red Cabomba at a somewhat local fish store. I've had it for a month, and it grows, but also sheds a lot. What's interesting is that as it grows it will shed it's lower "leaves/branches". I have 2.3wpg, pressurized CO2, and eco-complete. Does anyone know how to properly...

    Lead? Or What?

What metal do most plant places use to weigh down their plants? I would think untreated lead would poison the water, but I don't know any other metals that are so soft yet heavy. Also, where can I buy some? :hey:

Ok, Spill The Beans - Just Exactly How Do They Do It ?

I don't think so. It's just a common concept on these forums that you need fast growing plants. You don't, but you have to be willing to clean up the glass if you don't. Eventually as the plants get larger it's not an issue.

    Updated: Another Tank Journal

Yeah the bogwood off to the right is intended to be a nice little hideaway, but when we get a java fern and some moss on it, it should lighten up that side just a little. We tried having it further to the left, but it's just too big & cut off the tank a bit. The dwarf hairgrass we spread out...

    Updated: Another Tank Journal

Another update Lots of plants! It looks great! We also found a really cool looking peice of bogwood, lots of holes & stuff, but at first it didn't fit in our tank :( We had to cut it up a little bit to make it fit the 7" opening at the top of the acrylic tank. But now it fits! At first we...

    Eco Complete Substrate Still Clowdy

Mine took a while to settle, 3 bags in a 60g, but after a few hours it was pretty clear. Still a little dust, I can stir it up out of what's laying down, but not a problem.

Step By Step Guide - Riccia And Java Moss

We went to the LFS (not so local being in SD) and came back with tons of great looking plants :) while planting these in our 60g (more pics to come in the journal for that tank) we found some little pieces of what we think is Riccia Flutians. We're going to take some pictures but we've put the...

Aqua Garden - Mr G's 40ltr Oddball Tank Journal !

After thinking of this tank for a little bit, if I had it I wasn't sure what I'd do with it. It looks a lot like a few Turtle tanks I've seen. They'll put rocks along the back and water in the front, so the turtles can we out of water or in. On that though, I thought a few rocks along the...

Wtb Co2 Diffuser In Uk - Where ?

It's my understanding that if you can get your CO2 into your filter that is the best way. I'm currently doing so and I don't see a single bubble come out of my filter outlet. I've read that it does the best job of having CO2 diffuse almsot 100% into the water, meaning you need less...

    Co2 Set Recommendations

I have no clue on a set, but I went with putting it all together myself and it was really easy. I went with a regulator off ebay just like this one. Local welding store had a 5lb co2 tank for $51. A 8ft section of normal air tubing into my filter. I bought a Azoo diffuser, but I doubt I'll...

    Updated: Another Tank Journal

I know Discus are very sensative, and originally I kept him in the 10g for a couple days while he adjusted, but he seemed a little cramped (I imagine he's used to a much larger tank) so I moved him over to the 60. I've been keeping a very close eye on him and he seems to be doing well. I've...

    Updated: Another Tank Journal

I'm certainly hoping for more plants, along with more growth from the plants we have. If anyone has any suggestions (or better yet wants to send me a clipping, I can pay for shipping) We're also hoping for a larger peice of bogwood, hopefully with a branch that reaches up towards the top of the...

    Updated: Another Tank Journal

Update 07/22/06: Update! The hopes are for this to be a mediumly planted tank with 3-4 discus and some other community fish. Originally we bought a used acrylic tank for $50 that had a hole in the bottom that was used for a sump, that had been capped. Later on we found out that it leaked, so...

    Surface Algae

I believe I have the same problem. My tank has been up for a week now. I too have scooped it out, and it leaves the container greasy feeling. Very interested if anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it. For now I've tried to keep surface agitation up in hopes to minimize the problem

    Rot?

I have a few fish that have been showing some signs of discoloration, almost like a rot. It's not fin rot because it doesn't appear on their fins at all, however 2 of my bala sharks and my 3 spot gourami have signs of it. Here are the pics of the bala shark with the worst of it: ...ignore...

    Aquarium Backgrounds, What's Your View?

Agreed. Black brings out the color of the plants/fish in a FW, but in SW the blue looks more like the ocean, and the bright SW colors speak for themselves.
