Stocking Level For A Trigon 350

thx for the replies, i'll have to file this away for the future though. The person who was selling the tank has decided to keep it. :/ I will have my mbuna tank someday though. It's my destiny, even the water straight from the tap is alkaline and hard ! :P :good:

Stocking Level For A Trigon 350

manage to acquire a juwel trigon 350 tank :) The tank is 350 litres and the dimensions 123 x 87 x 65 cm http://www.juwel-aquarium.de/en/trigon.htm?cat=23 What sort of stocking level can i achieve in this tank? I'm going for the classic p.demasoni and yellow labs combination I'm not quite sure...

Reducing The The Hardness Of Water

your best bet for the long term is to invest in a RO unit and make your own RO water. Remember it needs to be remineralised afterwards. For freshwater fish a lot of people cut their RO water back with normal tap water.

    Lava Rocks For Bbq's

what problems do you foresee having a background of caves danno? The only think i can think of is it will be pretty hard to catch a fish if you need to. Having said that, the whole background will not be fixed to the tank, it's just latched on with some cable ties, so if needs be can be taken...

    Lava Rocks For Bbq's

Is the lava rock designed for use in gas/electric BBQ grills safe for aquarium use? I'm assuming so since it's obviously safe for food use. My hands are itchy do a project and i came across this fantastic idea http://www.duboisi.com/diy/BNdiygrotto/bndiygrotto.htm when i was researching for...

    Eheim Substrat Pro

i don't understand why all the filter manufacturers recommend you replace the filter media like sponges, bio balls etc etc after so many months. (actually i do know, they want your cash :D ) If you give them a good rinse in tank water they are find and last indefintely. Like Bloo the only thing...

    Filtration

another vote for cannisters, Modern cannister filters aren't hard to set up at all as a lot of models have priming devices (that's filling the filter with water so it can circulate the water in the tank when you turn the power on. If the filter was empty it won't be able to draw water in to...

    African Cichlid Question

i have a completely empty tank, taking my sweet time in deciding the occupants, maybe a species tank then :D Are there two colour morphs of M. chipokae? because most of the pictures and profiles i see on the net show a very blue cichlid, but some like this picture show a purple hue.

    What Cichlids Would You Have?

i'm getting a trigon too :) Definitely going to keep mbuna, thinking p.demasoi, and some yellow labs. I kinda like the look of M.johannii as well. But still need to so some research to see if they will all cohabit.

    Eheim 2080 Hose Size

Can anyone tell me if that hose width for the eheim 2080 is 16mm? i can't seem to find the information on eheims site or their online manual. many thx :)

    Curiosity Question

i think both males and females of pseudotropheus demasoni are similarly coloured and banded. So that's one monomorphic cichlid at least :) (but are the zebra's? i'm still learning )

    African Cichlid Question

    Sand Vs Crushed Coral

if you want your substrate to buffer the water and your wife prefers the look of sand, can you not use aragonite? That will buffer your water and it's very similar to sand.

    Recommend Me A Tank..

this page has a price list for n and d aquatics http://www.aquarist-classifieds.co.uk/php/detail62_43606.php i've also been doing some research for a custom made tank and must admit from people in several fish forums, n&d have a good reputation. Their prices seem to be the most competitive...

    Green Water

remember green water is algae, so apart from sunlight, you'll want some nutrient source in there too. Old tank water, or some fertiliser. I was looking for food source for daphnia too recently and it was mentioned, brewers or bakers yeast (the live stuff not the freeze dried) mixed in solution...

Do You Think There A Difference In Male And Female Fishkeepers.

i think guys are more interested in the maintenance side of keeping an aquarium too. I don't mean women are lazy doing water changes, i mean guys are more enthusiastic over all the different types of filtration methods and gadgets. I know i love getting a new filter and wondering whether i...

    8x2x2

everyone likes a big tank and apart from the obvious advantages, ( a much bigger variety of fish is open for you to keep, keeping good water parameters should be easier but this of course depends on the type and number of fish, however really you should maintain a regular water change protocol...

    External Filter

another vote for the tetratec cannister, they are a very good price and are virtually silent. I have my ex700 in my bedroom tank and i can't hear it running. About the capacity for a small tank. There are taps to the inlet and outlet pipes so you can adjust the flow rate if it proves to be too...

    Tetratec Ex700

another happy ex700 user here, for the money i don't think another other similar filter on the market can compare. Another aspect i'm very pleased about is how QUIET it is when running. I have my ex700 in my bedroom tank ( i like to watch the fish as i drift to sleep, very relaxing :D ) and you...

    When Shrimps Attack

if your fish are healthy you shouldn't have a problem with amano shrimp, having said that they will take their chances with weaker fish that can't swim away. I have had a rummy nose tetra that got spooked and smacked head first into the side of the tank, it was concussed and spasming. Within...

    White spots/buildup on fins?

it could be ich, which is a protozoan parasite. It's quite contagious but very common and the good news is that there are many medications that can treat it effectively. Protozin is a good one
