is it only male cichlids that have the vertical stripes on them? im mainly referring to peacocks, haps and zebras etc

i think both males and females of pseudotropheus demasoni are similarly coloured and banded.
So that's one monomorphic cichlid at least (but are the zebra's? i'm still learning )

Nope male and females on mbuna can both have stripes. As for haps and peacocks the brightly coloured ones you see are males the females are very dull by comparison.
