Sand Vs Crushed Coral

does crushed coral come in diff colors or is it usually one color?

As far as I am aware it only comes in the one colour! Its also the best colour if you ask me! I'm not a big fan of coloured substrate and believe that thinks look best in their natural state.

edit: If you are looking to change the colour of your crushed coral substrate, this can be done with changing you're selection of lighting. Because the coral is naturally white (near white at least) it will reflect a lot of light, therefore by changing the colour of light bouncing off it, you will be changing its colour (from you're perspective anyway). To get a darker color (river look) use something like a "soft glow" blue to get a very white bright look use "marine white tubes". Using a combination of these you can vary its overall look. Check the members tank thread as it gives details for the lighting tubes used in each of the tanks!

You can also use a natural small rock and put some crush coral in filter bags and put it in the carbon spot to buffer the water. Heres a pic of my 55.

if you want your substrate to buffer the water and your wife prefers the look of sand, can you not use aragonite? That will buffer your water and it's very similar to sand.
