Right, I've just cleaned out the filter, new carbon and new wool in it - started to pump the water through, ready to plug it in, and it pumped out one hell of a load of crap. Took ages to get the water flowing through to plug it in. Plugged it in, carried on pumping out crap and it sounds like...

Who's your longest resident at the fish tank :P Either living or one that has "moved out". For me its my Sucking Loach and my Red Finned Black Shark - They were amongst the first load i put in over 2 years ago! After them its probably the Kuhli Loach or my Glowlight Tetras :D

I normally put a bit of chicken in whenver i have it, usually gets snapped up quickly, if it doesn't, the crabs are more than happy to clear up ;) I'll give 'em some cucumber later, might try some carrot aswell.

Yep, every time I go in my room, up they dart to the top of the tank excpecting some food :D As soon as the lid opens aswell they're straight up there! ;)

Have you ever thought that, with all the lighting, filtration equipment, food, heating, aquarium decoration that you've probably got £100 of equipment guarding just £20 worth of fish.... :D ;)

LOL! Why won't she let you boil them? I'd of thought that some hot water and a good scrubbing should be sufficient, I'm sure ive put rocks in my tank without a decent clean before and they were fine.

I'm not sure how its done it to be honest. May have been my sucking loach, its been rampaging lately....it was attaching itself to the BIIIIG Tiger Barb which eventually died. Not certain though.

Hi guys, I've got a black molly and it appears to have lost its right eye. Except this the fish is healthy, no damage and is active. My friend also had this happen to one of his fish and he let it live and it lasted for quite a while. Thanks for any suggestions :(

I had a problem like that with my tetra's, I bought 7, 6 of them were eaten by the next day, the one that survived is doing well though :)

What I always do before a water change of any size is boil the water up then let it cool to tank temperature (obviously) and before I add it in I sprinkle some 'aquaPLUS' or something similair in it.

Just a quick query. How big do Red Crabs grow, I've noticed one of mine has grown a bit, but hope they dont grow and take over the tank :P

o -_- Mine is about... 4 or 5 inches and he doesnt irritate the other fish, he doesnt make a noticeable impact on algae but deffinitley isnt a menace to society..

;) How about sucking loach or chinese algae eaters (same thing) they grow to a decent size, apparently they can be a bit of a hassle with other fish but mine is fine

Hmm, they dont sleep as in lie on the bottom eyes closed,etc They sort of drift aimlessly, some of them drop to the bottom, I notice when I switch the light on in the morning that there are a few on the bottom - mainly tetras.

I do a water change every couple of weeks, haven't tested it for a loong time. The crab just scavenges the dead fish, although i suppose they couldve got the one loach during the night

Does anybody else have periods of no fish dying, everything running fine then all of a sudden you lose 3 or 4? :( I've noticed it a few times, I've had none die, or very few over the last 3-4 months or so and this last week ive lost 3 :angry: A Black Molly, a Tiger Barb and a Sucking Loach...

Hmm, Think one of them died last night (think the crabs hid it somewhere) the other one is still in the corner though, came up for a bit of food though this morning.

Hiya again, Might not be anything for me to worry about - But I've got 5 black mollies that I've had for a few months now(since about November) and I've noticed that occasionally one or two of them just choose to float up in the corner near the filter, when I put food in they seem uninterested...

Hmmm... The Shark couldn't have been out for longer than 5-10mins, I put it in the water while still holding it to see if it was alright and it seemed it was but a few days later it died I suppose it could've been unrelated....

if you're in UK stuff like Homebase or B&Q i suppose. Not sure about elsewhere though

Heya guys, As I'm gonna give my tank a good cleanout sometime soon (Transfer fish into another small tank and clean the gravel,etc,etc) I was wondering whether a bit of sand is a good or bad idea, I'm still gonna leave it entirely gravel based but I just wondered whether a bit in one corner...

ahh, checked all three thermometers all are different readings :S One says 77/78F one says 78F and the other one is around 74-76F

Yes they do like to climb, I often find them ontop of the heater or filter or even hanging around the light :P Had to block the holes up as the first one we had escaped and i found it in my shoe :D

If you put fingers on the glass of my tank the crabs come to investigate and try to pince your finger through the glass or try climbing up :D

Mines between 72 and 74 (21*C) Right in the centre of the green band on my thermometer :D .

hehe. Lobster, thats why I don't bother with small tetras, the golden barbs normally make a snack out of them within minutes :o

I've got 4 or 5 of those in my tank, Leopard ones though, the finnage on 'em is superb. A few looking a bit scraggy probably where the other fish have gone for a little nibble :P

Helloo, I've got two red crabs in my tank, had them for a few months, one has lost a claw - Do the claws grow back, if so how long does it take? Thanks, Phil
