What is the temp in your tank?

Just curious. I keep mine around 80 but I'm wondering if it should be a couple degrees lower.

Mines between 72 and 74 (21*C) Right in the centre of the green band on my thermometer .

In the amazon river, the temperature can get up to 40 degrees Centigrade with no apparent ill effect on the fish. So that's why i don't worry too much about temperature

Depends on the fish in the tank.... my Reb-Bellied Piranhas are @ 80, Oscar @78 and my lil tank with the others in is @ between 76 & 78!!!!!

I would have thought this to be too low....everywhere I have read it has said between 23 and 28degC

I am with you here PT. I don't have my heaters turned on in summer....the tanks sit around 28degC except on a really hot day where they can get as high as 34degC without any effect on the fish.

ahh, checked all three thermometers all are different readings

One says 77/78F one says 78F and the other one is around 74-76F

I try to keep mine down at 78 degrees but during the summer it ranges 80 to 82 degrees. 76 is about as low as I can get it with the air conditioning running. (The drawback of living in a desert).

normally 76 - 78. only raised it once when the tank started with a small outbreak of ich. Stuck it up to 82 during treatment and then back down to 76.

I had mine at 80, but I turned it down to 78 recently. I read that, with some diseases, higher temps can cause them to spread more quickly. That was mostly a preventative measure. Also, we got a weather loach. They tend to like cooler temps, but are supposed to be fairly adaptable. Since all of my tropical fish are okay with a temp of 78, I saw no reason not to lower the temperature to make the loach a little happier.
