she is fully grown at 13". She holds it in her mouth for a minute to let it defrost then swallows the cube whole. She has set the record at 4 cubes in her mouth at one time, managed to grab everyones food while the other Oscar was busy digging. Cheeky little hungry monkey!

Sounds like standard Oscar behaviour and nothing to worry about. How old is the fish and how big? If the fish is close to or over 10" then the Oscar is now sexually mature, age should be about 1 1/2 to 2 years old.

How big are these sores and how deep are they? Just trying to get an idea of what stage the fish is at

but when you add more live rock at a later level you will cause a mini cylce again. Personally I would setup the 55g and cycle it with the new live rock. Once the tank has gone through its cycle add your currentl setup with it. I would also add half the water from your old setup at the same time.

Add your few fish and corals and bingo your at £1k

Look at it as one big water change. But your not loseing your old water just gaining 50% more water.

Could try that but I suspect that even if I bought two identical heaters their internal thermostat could vary. What I would like is a probe that controls both heaters. I'm sure you can get them but I can't seem to find the setup on the net anywhere

I would say take it, do your research into how to maintain a marine tank and then go for it. You could setup a FOWLR tank which shouldn't too much of a leap from FW if you are happy and successful at keeping FW fish. 55g is a nice size tank to setup, should be to bad in keeping the water...

Whats the best way to heat a large tank, with one large heater say 500w or so or with two smaller ones. I'm currently getting bad heat swings on my tank going from 26.9c to 24c. Currently it is heated with a 300w heater that is rated upto 1000L
