Wanted: Large Tank, 300l Minimum - Scotland.

That would be my tank. Was my old Oscar tank, recently closed down and moved into the garage for storage so the tank is ready to go now. It's the top of the range Eheim tank, biggest they do I believe. 12mm glass with black silicon, stand in beech and frosted glass. Filtration is taken care...

    Oscars With Angels

I'm the exception to the rule as I have one angel in my oscar tank. They have grown up together and my Oscar has never had a bite at the Angel. I have even witnessed the Oscar pushing the Angel out the way with its mouth (closed!). It all really depends on the Oscar and its character as each...

    270 Gal

to me it looks like a weir on the left with a durso pipe which has been hacked away at for some reason, possibly trying to quiet the pipe down. The three holes on the bottom pane must have been used for a closed loop to provide circulation under the main area of live rock. They have now been...

    270 Gal

whats the white circle on the left of the tank, is this another hole on the bottom pane of glass? Also, what do you want to use the sump for? Extra water, hide equipment, extra filtration???

    Oscars Male Or Female

helpful bit of advice for you Carnage. Reasearch the fish before you buy so you know what it needs, or quizz you local fish shop owner about the fish and they should keep you right. Saves you money and hassle in the long run. You're doing the right thing taking the fish back, or you could get...

Oscar Looking For A New Home

could try putting an ad up in your local fish shop hoping a cichlid enthusiast will see it. Unfortunatley I think you might have a hard time trying to rehome a fully grown Oscar. I hate when I go into my LFS and see them in the top tanks from people not knowing they are buying tank monsters...

    Oscar Refusing To Eat

she is fully grown at 13". She holds it in her mouth for a minute to let it defrost then swallows the cube whole. She has set the record at 4 cubes in her mouth at one time, managed to grab everyones food while the other Oscar was busy digging. Cheeky little hungry monkey!

    Oscar Refusing To Eat

Interesting as I give mine frozen cubes and she just gobbles them up fine.

    Oscar Refusing To Eat

I feed mine pellets not flakes, but it probably won't make much of a difference.

Finally Sussed Out Whats Wrong With Our Tank

you really are having a testing month!!! Glad you got the marine tank fixed and the Oscar is on the mend :good:

    Another Oscar Question

Don't use tinned mushy peas  A bag of frozen peas is what you need, no need to defrost them just put some in the tank Edit: Also, I would stay away from using feeder fish as they significantly increase the risk of adding disease into the tank. I have never feed my Oscars feeder fish...

    Are My Oscsars Breeding?

It does sound like they are giving it a dry run. When my female was ready to lay eggs inside her mouth would turn pink and she would start huffing and puffing

    Oscars And Substrate.

I keep a 2" layer of gravel in mine for them to dig in as this is part of their natural behaviour. I also use a gravel vac to keep the gravel clean once a week. If I was to setup my Oscar tank again I would look into using an undergravel filter system but set it up to run in reverse so water...

    Oscar Refusing To Eat

have you spoken to your LFS to see what they used to feed him and if they had noticed any problems before they sold the fish on?

My Oscar Keeps Flaring At The Glass And Rocks.

Sounds like standard Oscar behaviour and nothing to worry about. How old is the fish and how big? If the fish is close to or over 10" then the Oscar is now sexually mature, age should be about 1 1/2 to 2 years old.

    Hole In The Head

How big are these sores and how deep are they? Just trying to get an idea of what stage the fish is at

    Hole In The Head

I lost my one of my Oscars a few weeks back to an internal parasite, which I think was caused by HITH. The reason I'm unsure was that he had an open wound which would not clear up nor would it get any larger, it did not look like HITH and did not spread but as you know these fish are prone to...

    Hole In The Head

Hi Can you post a pic so we can see how advanced the HITH is? Also, where did you get the liquid vitamin to soak the food in? Like the tap under the sink idea, can you give me anymore info on this setup you have for water changes Cheers Grant

    Tank Change Over

but when you add more live rock at a later level you will cause a mini cylce again. Personally I would setup the 55g and cycle it with the new live rock. Once the tank has gone through its cycle add your currentl setup with it. I would also add half the water from your old setup at the same time.

    Heating A 500l Tank

Could try that but I suspect that even if I bought two identical heaters their internal thermostat could vary. What I would like is a probe that controls both heaters. I'm sure you can get them but I can't seem to find the setup on the net anywhere

    Free Tank For My Birthday!

I would say take it, do your research into how to maintain a marine tank and then go for it. You could setup a FOWLR tank which shouldn't too much of a leap from FW if you are happy and successful at keeping FW fish. 55g is a nice size tank to setup, should be to bad in keeping the water...

    Heating A 500l Tank

Whats the best way to heat a large tank, with one large heater say 500w or so or with two smaller ones. I'm currently getting bad heat swings on my tank going from 26.9c to 24c. Currently it is heated with a 300w heater that is rated upto 1000L

    Worst Hour Of My Life

You need to add an RCD plug or adaptor so your tank won't fry your house should anything go wrong http://www.tooled-up.com/Product.asp?PID=1...eferrer=Froogle Also the use of zip ties around suspect pipes which could pop off would be a another good investment.

2 Week Holiday... What To Do With The Tank?

Is there a no one else local who keeps marines who can keep an eye on things for you? I'd be tempted to ask your LFS if they know of anyone who does holiday cover for tanks. Failing that get your tank as best prepared as you can and ask your neighbour to look after the fish. Give him the...

Nitrites High What Did I Do Wrong

think Miss Wiggle is on the money. You cycled your tank with a few guppies which are a small fish and won't cause any major bioload. Now you have added 4 discus which will cause a significant increase on the bioload. These high readings you are talking about, I would say your tank is trying...
