well just had an interesting hour. My skimmer tubing decided to come off from the skimmer, spewing a lot and i mean alot of water all up my wall and into my plug sockets. Now my plug sockets have all shorted so my room is a no go zone. Ive managed to get a power cable though up to my room and have my powerhead and heater running so hopefully shouldnt loose anything buuut not im facing a tank move downstairs tomoro. Luckily for me (well my parents really) only my room is affected and there should be an electrician coming round to fix it all.

alls i can say is never ever trust skimmers and make sure skimmers are at least 1 foot away from power sokets.
lesson well and truly learnt

That is really too bad...sorry you had to go through that.

I would say next time I would silicone seal the tubbing to the skimmer. That and make a u drip in your electrical cords. An electri-plug would be good for outlet sockets that aren't in use.

see a drip loop wouldnt of helped because my skimmer sprayed the water over to the main plug socket in the wall, which i think will need to be replaced now. anyway everything is calm and nothing is dead

Ah I see. Bummer

Maybe if it happens again you can take a think garbage bag and lay it over the outlets and water proof it with clear tape.

Just an idea.

well i moved the tank downstairs and my dad bought a new power tower which has automatic cut off and GFC something or other. Also i bought some silicone and have put that aroun the pipe. wiull get some pics ofm y tank now as its completely changed.

GFCI - Ground Fault Circuit Interruptor :good:

Detects leaking current and shuts devices off to prevent them from frying. Can't wait to see new pics :D

i wil get soome tomoro morning, everything is asleep. It looks alot bigger now especially with the addition of a new piece of live rock (free from someone who lives only 10 minutes away and as ever im watching my chemistry like a hawk) its been in a tank thats been set up for 3 years and as a result has loads of algaes, life forms, pods and ive even seen brittle starrs creeping aboot. Also its now got alot of spaces for corals and my mjum and dad have said they will help out alot more now which is always useful in a hobby like this ;)

awww gutted. when we first got our skimmer we set it up wrong and it drained half the tank in the night, all the plug sockets were soaked through, thankfully they recovered after being dried out. strangely we were lucky that our MH had died a few days before and it was bank holiday so we couldn't get a new one for a week or so, so we'd taken all our corals to the lfs to be looked after for a few days under their lights, if we'd have had the corals in the tank some would have been kileld as the water level dropped so far down.

anyway good luck with the clean up operation and getting everything sorted :good:

thank you. The way things are goign i think i can have my first cora in by the end of the month.

When I first got my skimmer I had a battle seting just right so that it wouldn't just fill with water. After I thought I got it just right it overflowed and water got into my socket in my wall and started shooting sparks and created a small fire! scared me to death but I learned a big lesson about where to put my skimmer or anything that can leak. That's all I got!

im just glad that it messed up now rather then later don the line when i have corals. That could of been a real disaster. Ive had a constant, ongoing battle with my skimmer with micro bubbles.
