    weird lil square fish guy?

Don't worry puffer_freak, I also get some well dodgy looks when I see Yellow Cow Fish at the local aquarium as I tend to jump around excitedly and make high pitched sounds. Considering how often I have been there you would think I would have gotten over it by now, but they are so bizarre...

    Advice for hurricane

I wouldn't put a weekend feeder table in as it may just pollute the tank especially if the filter is off due to a power cut. Definately do a water change. Is there any way you can insulate the tank? Maybe with some warm blankets etc so it won't cool down as quickly?

    Cloudy tank and fish dying

My mam has just called me to say her fish are gasping at the top of her tank and her water is very cloudy. Cloudy usually means a bacterial bloom right? Would this also make the fish gasp for air. It has happened before and she lost several fish who seemed to develop rapid swimbladder...

Help a Marine with his Wife's dream ?

I'm not an expert by any means but I would try to get hold of some ammonia to cycle with if at all possible. I started cycling with flake food and it smelled very bad! Even though I switched over to ammonia half way through it still took ages to vacuum all the rotting food out when the cycle...

    Freshwater Pipefish?

While trawling around an LFS the other day I noticed they had something in labelled as a freshwater pipefish. It looked just like a normal pipefish that you would find in a SW tank. They are beautiful fish, but are they really freshwater?

    Colloidal Silver Rocks!

I had to get it over the internet as I have never seen it in any shop. They have it on ebay too but you have to be careful who you buy from and make sure they are reputable. It is fairly pricey stuff so I don't think I would be one of those people who uses it frequently. The link that...

    Carnage

It sounds as though something as affected the bacteria in your filter to cause an ammonia spike. If you used old tank water to wash the filter that should be ok, unless you were a bit over vigorous in your cleaning. Maybe someone else might have some ideas??

    Carnage

How did you clean the filter? Did you use old tank water or tap water? Just trying to establish a cause of this so you know for future reference. Edited for bad spelling.

    Colloidal Silver Rocks!

I just wanted to post to say how great Colloidal Silver is. I finally gave it a shot after a spate of deaths and illness in my tank which nothing else has had any effect on. One of my albino cories has been looking unwell for the past week, hiding away, not eating much, not his usual self at...

    Carnage

I'm not an expert but doing the water change was the right thing. Keep an eye on the ammonia levels and keep doing water changes if it stays up. When you did your change yesterday did you clean the filter? Did you add de-chlorinator?

    Malaysian Trumpet Snails

I love my MTS's! I got them on purpose in the hopes that they would turn over my sand and eat some of the pond snails that were taking over my tank. They are cute and practical! I've been overfeeding at night recently in the hopes that my new plec will come out of hiding and eat so I have...

should this work in a ten gallon?

khulie loaches and cory cats both like to be in groups (of at least 3 I would say) so you might want to bear that in mind.

    Drawf Puffers

Yep you can fit one dwarf puffer in there. I know dwarfs are small but I would only put snails in if I was happy to have the puffer eat them, cos I'm sure he will give it a go.

    Feeding questions...

I believe a plant weight is the piece of metal you find wrapped around the bottom of bundles of plants when you buy them from a shop. Also I would stay away from canned food for you fish, it is usually full of preservatives and additives that are not good for fish.

    Corydoras Melanistius

Just a quick question, do Corydoras Melanistius tend to be sensitive fish? I ask because I recently bought two and lost them both to a swimbladder infection within 4 days. My other fish that I previously had are fine as are the two albino corys that I bought the same day. Could they have had...

Are all snails bad for your tank

I have been told that khulie loaches will eat snail eggs which should prevent them getting out of control. Seems to be true in my case as I have a few ponds snails which frequently seem to be getting jiggy but I hardly ever get new baby snails. :dunno:

    Swimbladder?

Its ok she is gone now, she was dead by the time I got to the tank from writing my last post. :-( Now what do I do for the rest of the tank to make sure this doesn't happen to any of the others, I don't want to have to go through another evening like tonight.

    Swimbladder?

The Cory has fallen over on to her side and is just twitching. She isn't going to make it is she? I don't even have any clove oil to euthanise her and I woudn't be able to bring myself to cut her head off or hit her. I have turned the lights off to try and give her some peace. I know people...

    Swimbladder?

She had come back out and her barbels are definately fine. Her tummy looks very fat, which might be a sign that it is just constipation, or I guess it could be the beginnings of dropsy. She just managed to swim up to the top of the tank and back which is good but she doesn't seem too...
