I found some of the wee critters in my tank last night. i recently bought some new plants so I bet thats were they have came from.

Am I best to wipe them out totally with some snail killing stuff before they get everywhere.

someone said squash them thewn add melafix to kill any bacteria.

I prefer giving my loaches a nice little snack.

Otherwise I understand you can use something like lettuce and put it in your tank let them collect on it then toss them out.

not all snails are bad for ur tank enviroment, the smaller ones that u are talkin about more often than not turn out a bad thing as they eat ur plants (accordin to other members) and produce waste.

i along with other members wouldnt agree to adding most 'store brought' snail removing remidies as it can affect ur bacteria in the tank/filter

as stated lettuce helps or removing and as an when u see them.

if your tanks big enough and has been set up long enough think about adding a couple of botia speices to help remove them (clown loaches being the fav one)

if you dont know much about them heres a link to the fish index about them

I found snails too! I have 3 very small ones at the moment. Ramshorns. At the moment they are staying because they are spending most of their time on the glass eating algae and not on my plants so are welcome enough.. for now!

The initial find gave rise to this discussion which might help you;

cheers folks what about a pleco or gouramis will they eat snails?

Neither of those do. The only fairly common snail eaters I can think of are some species of Loaches and Dwarf Puffers.

I have been told that khulie loaches will eat snail eggs which should prevent them getting out of control. Seems to be true in my case as I have a few ponds snails which frequently seem to be getting jiggy but I hardly ever get new baby snails. :dunno:

I have several mysterious pond snails show up in my Kuhli tank and they've been spreading slowly. I'm not sure whether it's because the Kuhlis eat the eggs or they have just been slow in spreading.

I must have pulled out at least 12 snails last night, a few about the size of a really really small pea. I think they are rams horn snails.

i used to have a pretty bad snail problem, till i went out and bought a clown loach. now all i see are shells :D i was going to take the loach back after he did his job but got attached to the guys character so i upgraded to a 29gal to keep him happy.hope he dont grow too fast for it. i do know they like to be in groups but mine seems to have taken a liking to my kuhlis and cory. i had the kuhlis before i got the clown loach and yet the population of snails still grew so im not sure about kuhlis eating eggs. i highly reccomend clowns if their not trumpet snails, :p and you have the space. i tried picking them out and the lettuce hence the loach.

No not all snails are bad but can produce a lot of waste and they repruduce fairly fast. If you do want to get rid of them buy clown loaches or you can find all of them and smash em :p
