Ok one of my new cories is having major difficulties swimming and keeping upright. When she swims along she lists to the side and ends up dropping down to the bottom of the tank. Tank is a 50 gallon with 5 Copper Rasboras, 3 Khulie loaches, 2 Sparkling Gouramis, 2 Albino Cories and 2 Corydoras Melanistius. It is one of the Corydoras Melanistius which is having the difficulty. She was fine when I went to work this morning. I did a water change on sunday before which the water stats were fine (Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0 and Nitrate between 20 and 30). I can't test the water right now because I lent my testing kit to my mam after I had done mine. I have been adding melafix to the tank since I got the corys on saturday, yesterday would have been the last day but should I continue adding it?

All other fish are fine and chirpy. There are no signs of pineconing.

What do I do? Feed a shelled pea? Water change???

I don't know what else to do :-(

What do the barbels look like, try the fish on some shelled peas and daphnia if it's still eating, if you can issolate the fish you could try maracyn 2 or teracycline on her.

Sorry justed seen you are from the uk you will need a anti internal bacteria med, or you could try a swimbladder med.

Thanks wilder. I can't isolate her at the moment, but if she makes it throught the night then i will get a small plastic tank to put her in tomorrow and start treating with an anti internal bacteria med. She is hiding in a plant pot at the moment but I'm pretty sure her barbels were full and healthy looking as I've been keeping an eye on them all as I know their barbels can get infections easily.

Thanks again.

She had come back out and her barbels are definately fine. Her tummy looks very fat, which might be a sign that it is just constipation, or I guess it could be the beginnings of dropsy. She just managed to swim up to the top of the tank and back which is good but she doesn't seem too interested in the pea.

Edited to say: You posted the link while I was writing, thanks will have a read though.

Corys don't like salt but with her being ill try her in a salt bath for five minutes just one teaspoon of salt it might help her out.

The Cory has fallen over on to her side and is just twitching. She isn't going to make it is she? I don't even have any clove oil to euthanise her and I woudn't be able to bring myself to cut her head off or hit her. I have turned the lights off to try and give her some peace. I know people say that freezing a fish is cruel but do you think it may be better than her going through this? I feel so helpless.

To be honest it isn't sounding good but i always like to give a fish a chance, if you think she is bad it's up to you, any sleeping tablets, or vodka, or even an overdose of a bacteria med.

Its ok she is gone now, she was dead by the time I got to the tank from writing my last post. :-( Now what do I do for the rest of the tank to make sure this doesn't happen to any of the others, I don't want to have to go through another evening like tonight.

Sorry poor little thing, R.I.P. Just a few daily water changes for now, good luck.

Thanks I will do. Once again, I appreciate your help even though nothing could be done for her. It meant a lot to know I wasn't entirely on my own.
