if you are that worried, you could get your own R0 unit and a waterbutt to store it in. They dont seem to be all that expensive

you normally cant use pure R0 so they remineralise it with a packaged mix or a % of tap water, but I am surprised they are selling it to you like that. Whats the normal tap water PH there? It's possible they are just ripping you off :angry:

when did you last do a water change? If you are getting 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite 1 week after a water change then you are cycled for your current bioload and you can slowly increase your stocking

what one are you using? most will deal with both chlorine and chloramine, if you use something like prime that will also turn the ammonia into ammonium which is less toxic to fish, yet still used by the filter bacteria

What test kit are you using? With the API Master test kit (the one I use) the Nitrate test is very hard to get right so might just be a false reading, best bet run the test again

Every make has the odd dud but most are good. Aps ones are cheap but have a lot of drop off when full of media, I have the 2000 l/h one (hw-304) and a fluval 405. Both are pretty good. Take a look on eBay or the classified section here you can get some good 2nd hand ones

Well if it does not sink you could try finding a bit of slate or other rock to weigh it down untill it becomes properly waterlogged

You will break down the fibers if you boil it, causing the wood to rot in your tank. So I would recomended against boiling, but yea soak it, if you are gettiing bits comming off put it under running water and that should get the worst of the debris off it
