Tank Cycling Day 25

hi as some of you know i have a new tank that is 25 days old today!

today i tested the water and the readings are as follows


ammonia 0.00ppm

nitrite 0.00ppm

nitrate 0.10ppm


now i know i should leave this for a week to see if it stays this way right?

and secondly, even though i buy ro filtered water from my lfs the ph reading is 7.5!! i want this tank as an apisto tank and that ph is too high! any idea why it is so high as its ro filtered?

and is my tank finally ready?,that is the main question lol

when did you last do a water change?

If you are getting 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite 1 week after a water change then you are cycled for your current bioload and you can slowly increase your stocking

its been nearly 2 weeks since the last water change, on the advice of my lfs, should i wait a week to see if it stays the same then do a water change?

no I would say water change now, you should be doing normal maintenace water changes once a week

its a 60 ltr tank would a 50 percent water change once a week be good?

yea, unless you are heavily planted thats probably more than you need.

you normally cant use pure R0 so they remineralise it with a packaged mix or a % of tap water, but I am surprised they are selling it to you like that. Whats the normal tap water PH there? It's possible they are just ripping you off

its about that actually, so maybe they are, but its a maidenhead aquatics, so i would hope they are not lol

if you are that worried, you could get your own R0 unit and a waterbutt to store it in. They dont seem to be all that expensive

i really know nothing about them and how they work though, we have a pure water filter that was fitted under the sink for drinking, so maybe we already have one? it has special salts you have to buy so maybe its not come to think of it

This one looks like its pretty good. Dont have any experience running one myself but with my hard water its pretty tempting.

Might be worth finding someone who keeps Discus, they seem to need R0 more than most, and might know a bit more
