    My kapuas are here!!!

Right?! I saw the topic title and got a lil excited that someone had kapuas... :zz Anyhoo, I still have and run those tanks. They're 48x12x12

Anyone Else Think This Is Disgusting?

I read this thread this morning after locking the other and it seemed to have been a happy ending so I left it. Somewhere along the lines since then it has gone a different route. There will be rules set up specifically for the betta forum tomorrow.

What The Hell Am I Doing Wrong?

Have you tried feeding them together? Sometimes a small meal of bloodworms (while the female is out and about) eases the tension abd works as a distraction. With that said, don't be too alarmed by the fighting. Has he ripped her fins or really hurt her? Mostly it looks worse than it is...

Whos Gunna Be The First One To Tell This Breeder Off?

There is nowhere this thread can go except spiraling out of control. A touchy situation that will, no doubt, give people something to get angry about. TFF really doesn't need to be involved in a war with an eBay seller, so with that said, I'm going to lock this now. You're free to email the...

    Welcome Our New Co-admin, Tolak!

With William's increasingly busy schedule, he has promoted Tolak to co-administrator. The staff is very appreciative of all of his hard work and glad to have him on board. :good:

    Cant Keep Fish Alive! Help!

Indeed. These are the most important things to know. Also, be sure to avoid spraying any chemicals on or around the tank. This includes household cleaners and air fresheners.

Who's Removed Heaters From Their Tropical Tanks

I haven't used heaters for years. To me they seemed unnatural and more risky than they were helpful, my fish don't seem to mind fluctuation at all. I've always said - if you're comfortable, your fish are comfortable. This year I've gone as far as keeping my central heating thermostat at 70...

    Pea Puffer Vs. Dwarf Puffer

I was a little confused by the pea puffer vs dwarf puffer thing at first, too. I called a lfs asking for dwarfs and she said "uhhh...we have pea puffers..?" Me- "...o..k..." *hits google * But yes, they're the same as everyone has said. I got one a week or two ago and at first he wasn't eating...

Ever Added Something "unusual" To The Aquarium

My midas is quite large (14") and we've put toys in his tanks, mainly squeaky bath toys and a ball or two. It's not uncommon to glance over and see him swimming around and tossing/gnawing a rubber ducky.

    Ups.. Rant

That's a tough one. Did you get insurance on the package? Have you contacted the seller? They might offer replacement fish but you'll probably have to pay for the shipping, unless you contact UPS and see what they'll do as well. It's going to be a big rigamaroo. But, they may show up at any time...

Not Replying Once Your Question Is Answered.

What bothers me more than that is when someone asks a question and a well thought out answer is written, then the OP comes back and says "Bump" or "Anyone else?" without even acknowledging the person who responded to them. I saw this just the other day in some thread in TCC and it was very rude.

Near Disaster In The Baby Room

My daughters cat is darn near obsessed with my fish room. Makes me a nervous wreck and I'm constantly poking my head in asking what he's doing. He's usually quite well behaved as I *think* that he *thinks* he's a dog. He really has no cat like qualities aside from repeatedly getting on my...

    Well Chuffed

eep! Cuteness, congrats! My kribs lived with some mexican mollies forever and mama krib would actually take molly fry into her brood as if they were her own. I think the cyclopeeze would be good for now, I noticed my mama krib chewing up and giving the fry bloodworms etc as they got older. Hatch...

    Smallest Breeding Tank?

Your empty two foot tank would work as a grow out, so long as you keep the water clean. And depending on your survival ratio, you can keep growing/grown females together in there as well. The only females I ever bothered jarring were the ones I intended to send off to show.

    Betta Coccina-pugnax-unimaculata

Goodness, I remember a time when you guys in the UK couldn't get your hands on wilds for darn diddly..now look at em, eBay even! Of the 3 I've only had pugnax and they get quite large! They, and the unimaculata would be the most tolerant of water variations. The coccina, however, prefers very...

    Smallest Breeding Tank?

a 2.5 or half filled 5 is pretty much as small as you should go, and perfect imo. Keep in mind you will, most certainly, need a larger tank (at least a 20) to move them to so they can "grow out" before they're anywhere near the jarring stage. Yes, you can jar females as well..but if space is so...

    Help!

You want it to be pretty still in there. I use just an airline clipped to the side with a small suction cup, with the hose knotted so you get like a bubble every other second max. You can increase it as they get older and gain better control of themselves. Also, in regards to their labyrinth...

    Help!

Tolak, the turkey baster creates waves to give them the "oomph" to get back up, rather than just lay there at the bottom for days. There's not really any bubbles involved if ya do it right. I would be weary of using an airstone as a tool because it gives such little control. Seems it would be...

    Help!

Sounds like he's doing just fine then. I've had males with no nest at all towards the end. His spit is still good and sticky. :good: (and by "looking too much" I meant you're freaking yourself out more than anything, lol)
  25. wuvmybetta

    Help!

I think you're looking too much! They still have a long way to go until they've made it. And even after that there's a long road ahead of them so I hope you're prepared. What's the male doing?
  26. wuvmybetta

    Help!

No. Betta are not born with their labyrinth organ fully developed. They do not even start 'air breathing' until they're about a month old. Until then their main source of air is from the oxygen in the water, which is why you need an air source such as a sponge filter etc.
  27. wuvmybetta

    Help!

He'll get them. Sometimes some eggs are duds, he may know better than you at this point. If he begins to completely ignore all of the eggs and just goes off to stare at his reflection for hours on end or whatever- you can either risk it and hope his nature to nurture kicks in as they hatch, or...

    Howdy Folks..

starry, I know. Texas has crazy weather where it can be upper 70's during the day, then drop down to the high 30's low 40's in the night. I'm hoping to get the hook up with some new fish tomorrow at a club meeting. Yip! I've always bragged that my fish were tough as nails but I think my living...

    Fish Stuck To Filter Intake

When did you set this tank up? If it's new, I'd ask the friend with the 30 for some of his filter media to put in your filter. Then watch and wait, you might be going for a cycle. With that said..ya know that craft canvas stuff, looks like a sheet of plastic with a million holes in it, you can...

Betta Can't Swim Or Can't Breathe?

Hey Lissa, what kind of medicine has he been on? And what kind of dechlorinator do you use? Now, if you've had him 2 and a half years, and got him from a petstore..he is more than likely well over 3 years old and that is a good stretch for a betta. If it is simply his time, you should rest...

    Howdy Folks..

Hey starry! I was excited when I saw your name :hyper: Pellinore is gorgeous, what a face  Yeah, the whole thing with the wilds was tragic. I had adopted out all of my fancy show kids and kept the wilds. I was in between living here and "there", came back to do a feeding, water changes...

    Howdy Folks..

Hi Tibby! I'd love to see pics. My husband *tried* to put his foot down once upon a time but I think there were so many that he didn't even notice when a new kid came in "Oh him...yeah, he's been there for a while" Then I finally just started their own room..no one would know then...

Does This Look Like Fin Damage?

If you can find bettafix get that instead. I'm not looking to start out with a debate here so no offense halfmoonbetta, but melafix can easily kill bettas if overdosed. Personally I think he looks just fine and constant clean water should heal up any tears that you may notice.
