    Betta Biotope

Haha, only the finest music for my fish ;) I added 5 Yamatoa Shrimp, Japonica, Amano whatever you want to call them to the tank yesterday, a Half Moon Male is going in next week when my retailer gets his shipment in. This little compact I bought doesn't half take some decent photos in macro mode!

    Bogwood Water Tanning

That looks more like bacterial problem than tannins, the water should still be clear when tannin stained, not milky.

    Bogwood Water Tanning

What's with the prejudice against tannin stained water? It looks awesome, it's good for your fish and it looks more natural.

    Cheap Water Conditioner

Sodium Thiosulophate will break the chloramine bond and detoxify the chlorine but you get left over ammonia which is the only downside.

    Cheap Water Conditioner

You can't any cheaper than Sodium Thiosulphate crystals.

All The Pets You've Ever Had!

In my life so far I've had: 3 cats, a dog, 2 guinea pigs, 3 hamsters, 2 rabbits, 2 hermit crabs, hundreds of fish, there's probably more however.

    First Proper Planted Tank

That is a fabulous scape, you should be proud of that.

    Se Asian Biotope

Lovely Caz, great fish selection, have you thought about adding peat or catappa leaves to discolour the water?

    Vid Of The Month

http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/392364-sadly-no-more-of-the-month-competitions-on-tff/ Video's require even more server space, no chance of it happening.

    Betta Biotope

As it stands so far, ignore the plants, they're just in there to keep them alive. I'm ashamed to admit that a Betta will be going in this set up.

    Water Test Kits? Help?

No, but you need Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate, you can get any pH kit as they're all the same formulation. http://www.surreypetsupplies.co.uk/salifert-ammonia-50-tests.html http://www.surreypetsupplies.co.uk/salifert-nitrite-50-tests.html...

    Water Test Kits? Help?

It depends on where you are, in the UK the Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate and pH test kits can all be picked up for the same price as an API kit online, I recently bought mine for £20 posted. If you're in the US then go for the API as Salifert kits are extortionate over the pond.
  22. S

    Water Test Kits? Help?

Do the right thing, and buy Salifert liquid test kits, comparing a Salifert liquid test kit to an API test kit is like comparing a Ferrari to a Fiat.

This Week's Off Topic Topic... (14/05/12)

I'm not vain enough to even consider plastic surgery, sure I take care of my appearance with the usual hair gel and deodorant combination that is common amongst many men, maybe the odd bit of moisturiser every now and then, but that's as jazzy as it gets.

Whats More Dangrous To Your Fish

Ammonia and Nitrite are both quite toxic, which is more toxic depends on a number of factors such as pH, temperature etc. As for nitrate, keep it as low as you can within reason, obviously if you have plants you'll want some nitrate, then again nitrate test kits are so diabolically inaccurate...

    70L Low-Tech Set Up

Here we are, I had an accident with my DSLR :rip: so it's back to the compact digital for now until I can save for another. The Java Fern isn't at its best but everything else is okay, the Anubias is still going strong, the P.helferi faded away when I neglected it for a few weeks though :/ Oh...

Dried Oak Leaves And Thin Driftwood

The wood I found wasn't properly dead, the inside was still moist so it would require some thorough drying out and I'm wanting to get this set up ASAP. I've thought about using catappa leaves, most I've seen are a little too big though, I may end up just using a catappa leave bag instead to make...

    Perception

Because for something to change its mass/shape requires some form of energy, it can't happen spontaneously.
  35. S

    Cuttings

Heteranthera zosterifolia is an easy one, cut just above the node (just above a set of leaves) and replant the cutting. Not sure about peacock moss as I've never kept it but I presume you'd just trim and then reattach to wherever you want some moss.

Can I Put Tank Next To Cooker?

The only real problem will be temperature fluctuations, but even then I can't see it being a problem if it's just sitting on the worktop.

    Frozen Bloodworm Question

The smell of blood worm ice cubes would be horrific, just cut up a cube, they're easily done if you get good quality blood worms like gamma is there's virtually no ice.
  38. S

Dried Oak Leaves And Thin Driftwood

That's the thing though, dead oak leaves aren't very common in spring, though I'll head out today and see if I can find some.

What Filter Media? Juwel Rio 180

You don't need to change the sponges every few months like Juwel recommend, they will last for years, replace them only when they start to disintegrate.
