Hi all. I've got a quick question about frozen bloodworm.

I'm finding one block isn't enough to get some to my cories but 2 blocks is a bit too much. If I got some live bloodworm and tipped it into an ice block tray and stuck it in the freezer would that be okay?

Just thinking that ice cubes are a bit bigger than the blocks we buy at the lfs and I should only need one block that way instead of the 2 and some wasted bloodworm!!

I just use a sharp serrated knife & cut the blocks in two

I suppose you could do it that way, but live bloodworms are far more expensive than frozen, so it could work out quite pricey.

The cubes are very easy to cut in half with a big knife ;)

Hah, snap, Cazgar!

I tried the sharp knife/cut one block into two tonight. Bit messy but it worked. I just couldn't help thinking "there has to be an easier way"

I'm going through a lot of bloodworms at the moment as I'm egging my cories on to get breeding.

I've never looked at live bloodwrom so I didn't know it was expensive ... maybe I'll have to forget the idea

Bloodworm is avalible in a thin frozen slab as well as the blister packs. Try that and just break off as much as you need.

I've never seen it in a slab - it sounds better than the blister packs. I'll have to go on the hunt and see if I can find some near-by

Incidently, this begs another question. What happens to frozen food if it defrosts before you get it back in the freezer? Is it still safe to give to the fish or does it sort of 'go off'?

I defrost the frozen block in my 40ml sera test tube with aquarium water (evening feeds only); any surplus goes in the fridge for the following breakfast! It won't go off that quickly...

I've never seen it in a slab either.
If it defrosts, pop it in the fridge, should be ok for a day or so

It may be that I am based in the uk. I used it to feed my discus, tho it was a while ago. I think it was made by Gamma?? Will check and get back to you later.

we're all in the UK too so if you know where I can get some that's not a million miles away that would be great.

I'm also gonna check out the fresh bags and then do the maths. My last blister pack of blood worm cost me nearly a fiver but I'm sure I've seen fresh bags for a couple of quid somewhere.

I'll keep ya all posted :)

If you have a Maidenhead near you they do fresh bags of bloodworm for 60p.
Their delivery day here is Thursday, but could be different elsewhere

there's a maidenhead near York at Poppleton - about 40 minutes away. It's an excuse to go have a nosey ;)

Hi again, google "frozen bloodworm slab", lots of places doing a 1kg pack for
£10, which should work out quite economical.

The smell of blood worm ice cubes would be horrific, just cut up a cube, they're easily done if you get good quality blood worms like gamma is there's virtually no ice.
