    cycling the tank

A thermometer helps to monitor the heater is working correctly. Most plants sold at a lfs will be ok with a gravel substrate, if you can advise what you bought we can say for certain. Add your water, put the heater in and turn the filter on. Add an ammonia source (I usually put some cheap...

    Betta in a Fluval Chi

Hi All I was at my LFS yesterday looking at some fish ideas for another tank and they had a Fluval Chi (25L) marked down from $220 (AUD) to $150 as it was a display model (never held water or had the filter etc run) and it was missing the chemicals its meant to come with (a water conditioner...

I don't think so, not that I have seen anyway. Can you see the holes? Easy to rig a cover plate up but it wont look pretty

    New Nano Tank

I'm in Sydney, house stays relatively cool. I have a spare small chiller as I broke down one of my coral propagation tanks so I can hook that up if needed. I know you're not being rude mate, just voicing your opinion

which is fair enough and really is the likely outcome of this tank. I am just looking for ideas as my fresh water knowledge is limited.

    New Nano Tank

sorry to just be throwing fish out there for opinion.. An Angel fish? Is there a good youtube channel for accurate info? Was watching Aquarium coop but a few of the fish he recommended for this size tank has been dismissed here. Would rather watch a video with accurate info

    New Nano Tank

ah right, thanks. Freshwater seems very confusing compared to reef keeping. Even on this thread I am getting conflicting info. Nick telling me I couldn't even have 1 cory and Byron telling me I can have 10 :confused:

    New Nano Tank

Thanks mate I have about 1000L of RO on hand at any stage for the reef tank so I was going to use it if I had a fish that needed a particular hardness so I could build to it. So are you saying in this tank 8-10 pygmy corys would work in here with something like a mosquito rasbora group?

    New Nano Tank

might just rescue one i think:)

although the more i think about it the more i like the idea of saving a betta from those awful holding tanks at the lfs

    New Nano Tank

not considering shrimp. used to keep and breed them. dont want to again. Only got my info on pygmeus from TFK magazine. They set a tank up with 15 in a 45l tank as they only max at abouy 1cm or so. Always thought its info was pretty accurate, guess its not. I have no issues with it just...

Just a tank. Added a heater and hob I had lying around. So why would a betta cause a problem for a pygmy cory?

    New Nano Tank

Hi All I'm a veteran reefkeeper but it has been a long time since I have had any freshwater fish. I have a few questions :) I was gifted a nano tank (30L) which is currently cycling. It will cycle for about 3-4 weeks as I am going overseas and do not want it stocked prior. I have started to...

    Can It Cycle This Quickly?

may have got a bit too excited, tested the water again and my ammonia has gone up to 0.5, the nitrite is still 0 and nitrates are about 20. Will do a 50% water change as planned tonight and see how it goes over the next 48 hours. I didnt really have time to do it last night and as there are no...

Im Looking For A Hospital Tanks

ok thanks for pointing that out, although i feel the main issue is the size if fish this 'tank' may need to house. He may have something like a clown loach that needs to be q'd and it can not but put in the tank to heal as it will cause more stress! What fish do you keep currently?
  25. A

Im Looking For A Hospital Tanks

id say no, you would almost find it impossible to keep the water cool enough as a heater in that size will boil your fish! Also what are the sizes of fish that you keep and will possibly have to go into this tank? Look for a rectangle tank on ebay possibly, i got a great 40l glass tank with a...

    What Fish Should I Get?

i think he was saying that the fish listed is what he is considering not what he has, or i maybe wrong!! If it is what your considering id go for the danios, maybe some of the long finned ones depending what you have already in there

    What Fish To Get

what substrate do you have? Id put some cory's in, a school of clown barbs would look nice, or maybe a shoal of black neons, its really depends on the dimensions too if its a tall think tank or a rectacle size as to what can be kept

    Can It Cycle This Quickly?

i q'd them just to check them over, i didnt want to introduce them into my main tank and bring any diseases in etc as i was on a tight time scale i didnt get to spend much time really looking at them before i moved them, they actually look nice in my q tank so they may even stay in there, its...

    Pleco Questions

this wont really have anything to do with it, being 'cycle' essentially means that the bacteria in your filter has grown enough to remove all the nasties, do you wash your filter media? If so make sure you do it in the old tank water as if you use tap water it will kill off the bacteria. Why...

    Your Thoughts

no problems, id just leave fish out of whatever you try, if you are experimenting with things etc it would be better to leave fish out of it!
  32. A

    Your Thoughts

not really i think the idea of the ammonia and cycle starting product is the best idea. This way you can see what has the best results and research reasons as to why and even make adjustments to get a mix that works even better than 1 or the other. i dont see how making a 'garden' would give...

    Can It Cycle This Quickly?

Hi all set up my new tank a week ago, its about 150l. I used a fully mature filter, basically the tank was at my parents and has been running for 5 years and i now have it used about 20L of tank water and the same canister filter (ehiem 2213) Im running a fishless cycle (added fish they had...

New To Hobby And Need Some Advice...

welcome and im sure you will love this hobby. It depends what you want to keep, the first one i prefer as it is larger and a better shape (also im assuming you wish to keep tropicals, it states you can keep marines in it but it is way too small for marines), you could sit it on a benchtop etc...

Why Did My Fish Die? 5 Today

its quite possible, perhaps something has polluted your water? What did you use to fill the tank, i only ask as a friend had a similar thing, turned out his bucked he used for filling was used during the week by his mother and she used detergents in it which probably did the damage, also check...

Tiger Barbs (need Help!). Calling All Tiger Barb Experts!

as i said in your last thread, you should take them back cause you dont have enough room to keep anything with them as your tank isnt big enough! If you want a mixed community tank you will have to take them back to the lfs. Really you only have about 5g of free tank space and that isnt big...

    Please Advise

ok what size is the tank? Also you have a mix of cold and warm water fish in there whish i personally advise you to stick to either warm or cold and not mixed. It could be the Rambo shark, who i believe is actually a Rainbow shark, or possibly the 'dollar fish' if they are silver dollars. One...

    Nightmare

keep doing your water changes, unfortunately a lot of the fish probably wont survive as even a reading of 0.25 ammonia will effect them. If you can ring a lfs and see if they will take them back and start from scratch
