Hi, I have 5 Tiger Barbs in a 20 Gallon Tank. I tried putting other fish in with them but soon after the Barbs were nipping at them relentlessly. I'm not sure if it's because they think they own the tank because they have been in there by themselves for a while. What should I do??? Here are my options:

1. Add more Tiger Barbs so they won't nip/attack at my other fish.

2. Return the Tiger Barbs to my LFS

3. Add the other fish and wait to see if the Tiger Barbs calm down

Please help, any advice would be great! Thank you.

Tiger barbs are aggressive, hence the name,i would take them back if your concerned for your other fish. :)

they tend to nip at fish with longer fins, like siamese fighting fish or guppy's, so the type of fish you tried to introduce with them might have been a factor as well.

as i said in your last thread, you should take them back cause you dont have enough room to keep anything with them as your tank isnt big enough! If you want a mixed community tank you will have to take them back to the lfs. Really you only have about 5g of free tank space and that isnt big enough for the type of fish you will need to get to be able to handle the attention!

what kind of fish could I use then as starter fish besides Zebra Danios?

5 or 6 golden barbs, attractive, active & hardy. Not aggressive.

I tried having Gold Barbs around my Golden Wonder Killifish before. He tried to kill each one that I got. I had to bring them back to the store. I like Gold Barbs a lot though.

I brought the Barbs back to my LFS and brought back Black Skirt Tetras
