    Unexplained Deaths...

Unfortunately not. I know that's a huge mistake on my part. My quarantine tank, currently has some cichlids that would easily eat guppies. So I rolled the dice and lost.

Additions To Angelfish Tank. Opinions Please.

10-12 neon dwarf rainbows would look great. To that you could probably add 6 red or bosemani rainbows.

    Unexplained Deaths...

All the fish in the tank were juveniles when I set it up. The oldest being in the tank 18 months. No change in color at all. Nothing I can think of. I don't use things of that nature. Also I would think the tetras might be more sensitive to that.

    Unexplained Deaths...

Really quick... 20 gallons pH 7.2 am 0 nitrite 0 nitrate 20 In the last week since I added a couple of female guppies, I've lost 3 kuhli loaches and 5 cories peppered and sterbai. They show no signs of disease, the 3 I've seen die, just go from swimming normal, to having difficulty swimming...

Still a bit young, but if I had to make an educated guess, I'd say both are male.

    Is It The Tetras?

Buenos Aires tetras are quite boisterous and can be aggressive. They probably did do your angels in. As for your apisto, stress can cause dropsy and I hate to say it, but I have never been able to save a fish when it starts to show signs. Hopefully you'll have better luck.

    So Cute!

They'll try again, don't worry. Do you have a flat stone with a large leaf plant next to it? These are their favorite spots to breed. The plant can be real or fake, so long as a leaf hangs over the stone.

The Lowest Point Of My 5 Year Fishkeeping Hobby

Get a good hob filter so much easier to maintain. In 30+ years I've given up on the hobby two or three times, only to come back after finding a fish I've longed for. I would say stick with it a while longer, if in a couple of months you still feel the same, return your livestock and store the...

    German Blue Rams?

Rams are not the easiest fish to keep. Not only do they have special water quality needs, they also have a hard time competing with aggressive fish like barbs. My recommendation would be to up the number of your cory cat from 1 to 6, and look at kribs for a good cichlid to add. Though not as...

    Fully Stocked Now?

For blue rams or any of the morphs, I would recommend a temp of 27-30°C. Anything lower and they won't thrive, over the decades I've kept them in numerous setups, and they've always done best at the higher temps. They lived at lower temps but not as long and were never as healthy. Bolivian...

    Fully Stocked Now?

Just to chime in, even if it wasn't fully stocked, none of your current inhabitants would be happy at the higher temps the rams need to thrive.

Transfer Filter Medium To New Tank

Run it for 6-8 weeks and don't increase the bio-load by much. Just a couple of new fish every week or so, but keep an eye on the ammonia and nitrite.

    50 Gal

A rummy nose would be fine with keyholes. Most tetras would be safe, unless they are really small and the keyholes large.

    Droopey Angelfish

    50 Gal

Rams do best in pairs. A pair will take a territory of about one square foot, and aren't very aggressive to other fish. Even when breeding at most they just give a small chase to anything they consider a threat to their fry. If you don't want them breeding , there is nothing wrong with having a...

"new" 29g Tank - Several Questions

Krylon spray paint is the best for plastics. 3" is better than 2". I've got 2" in my planted tank and wish I had gone deeper. Sand will work just as well. I use hot water and vinegar, to sterilize stuff all the time. just a couple of cups to a gallon or two of water is all that's needed. Good luck!

    50 Gal

Get 6 angels let them pair up then sell the 4 you don't want, or keep them all a 4' 50 is larger enough for 6 angels. Breeders typically keep pairs in 20 highs or 2 pairs in a divided 29 gal.

Use a clean turkey baster to get the food on to the sand and in the caves for them. Frozen blood worms and brine shrimp are.good. A good live food is blackworms, not to be confused with tubifex worms.

The breeding tube is located just in front of the anal fin. In females when they are ready to spawn it is very visible and blunt ended. In males it's usually only slightly visible and comes to a point. Good luck!

Oscar Fish: Best Food To Bring Out Colour

Krill frozen or freeze dried, suitably sized earthworms from the bait or pet store, crayfish that are bite sized, meal worms, crickets, any fruits and veggies they might eat, and a staple pellet. Personally I've gotten away from the Hikari, in favor of the aqueon cichlid pellets.

Its prespawning behavior. Since she faded and is clamping her fins, most likely she's not ready. Make sure the water parameters are correct and she has plenty of hiding spots, and they'll most likely try again in a few days.

Ok, Advice For Beginning A Fish Store?

I have to agree with Wills, don't. Especially in the current economy. A friend of mine opened a small pet store that's main focus is fish. He's struggling right now and doesn't know how much longer he will be in business. Fish don't bring in much income, nor do aquariums. Its everything else...

Adding A Sponge To An Existing Charcoal Filtration System

That's a great filter. I have a 50 that I've been using since 1991, and it was used when I got it. As for media, I would suggest two bags of the ceramic rings and a sponge. Keep the carbon, incase you ever have to medicate and need to remove it from the water when done. If you post pics of your...

Adding A Sponge To An Existing Charcoal Filtration System

Ok. Typical hang on the back filter. The amount of carbon in those is really useless. What I've done in the past, is cut a slit in the top of the media cartridge and filled it with ceramic bio-filter rings, after dumping the carbon. This allowed me to keep a good colony of bacteria going and...
