I had that same thing with a brand of food once.  I ended up changing the brand to something else and they would eat it all.

I have a horned nerite with my betta.  He tried to bite one of the horns on day one and scared himself silly... not approached the snail ever again!  LOL

Not all bettas are mopey... but they do have a natural "pout".  My first one (which ended up being in bad condition and died after a week... never buying one from that chain store again) was sooooooooo responsive to me and so happy for interaction.  My second is so so, he does nap quite a bit...

My assassin snails, when small, seem to climb up the tank and get air bubbles in their shells... none of the older ones ever do it though.

If you want to keep the fry, I would do water changes so the ammonia is down to safe levels.  If you don't want to keep them you could try rehoming them with someone who has a cycled tank. A 3 gallon tank is also too small for neon tetra... neon tetras do badly in newly cycled tank and also...

Yes, my thoughts were also that it might spread if the fish dies and other nibble on him (if it is wasting disease) and I'd like to minimize possibilities of it spreading.

He does eat, but nowhere near as much as any other fish... and he doesn't seem driven to eat.  When I watch he has maybe 2-3 bites during the time all the other fish are rushing to get every single bit they can.  I've had him separated in hopes that he would somehow get more with no competition...

Investing in your own test kit might be easier as an uncycled tank would require daily water testing.

Maybe add a picture of how it is tilted.  From the first post I thought it was laying on its side and now "tilted" makes me think it is more off balance.... a picture might help.  Also, could you post your specific readings for ammonia and nitrite.

Teehee... I was going to suggest maybe the lady in the tank did an "unlady-like" thing....   I tend to think of my tank as smelling like a stream.

How is his appearance otherwise?   The general treatment for swim bladder is usually to not feed them for 2-3 days to give them a chance to clear their system.  Daphnia is a good thing to try feeding them as well afterwards.

I would also think something bacterial as there is no appearance of anything fungal that could have gotten between his scales.

Do you have a liquid test kit?  If so, that is the best way to monitor when the water changes need to be done.

If it is cloudy eye then yes, pristine water will clear it.  You could use medication but it doesn't speed up the healing process that much to make it worth it... plus it is always better to do it naturally when that is possible.

Ages ago I had fish that got cloudy eye from poor water quality (those were my bad fish days) and it was cleared with pristine water only after about 2 1/2 - 3 weeks.  Sounds to me like that is a probable cause for yours since you threw away the old filter media and started a new cycle.

I buy some Tetra wafers especially for crustaceans.  I can't see them online to give you a link and had never seen these particulars ones before until I recently came upon them in the shop.  But never seen my shrimp and snail go mad for anything like they do for these!

I would disregard what your pet store tells you, pet stores are notorious for bad information.   What you are doing at the moment is a fish in cycle.  You will need to invest in a water testing kit (if you haven't already) and begin daily tests of your water.  You will need to do daily water...

Looks to me like a very severe case of prolapse. I can't imagine one that extreme would retract, and even if it did, it would be a high risk for infection and occurring again every time she has fry.
