I think my fish are about to be dead

Yeah, that's very important. I didn't even notice that.

I think my fish are about to be dead

It could also be due to ammonia (I can't really read the test tube result) - or the temperature of the tank is too high. I'm not sure - hopefully someone who knows more stuff will chime in. I would guess it's not due to low oxygen since you just changed the water.

I think my fish are about to be dead

Do you have a filter and an airstone? Gasping at the top could be a sign of poorly oxygenated water. Something that agitates the water's surface will increase oxygenation.

    freshwater shrimp?

I could be wrong, but I doubt the shrimp will hurt your fish. I've never heard of that happening, except when shrimp are eating a fish carcass (that died for some other reason). Mine never bothered my cories. They may eat fish eggs.

Just got another tank... stocking ideas?

Yeah, I am planning on getting some myself. The only thing is, it's really hard to get females. Stores usually only sell males & I haven't looked into breeders yet.

    Maybe some Scarlet Badis?

    freshwater shrimp?

One other thing: I've only had neocaridina davidi (cherry shrimp) and I've found, in my experience, that they will hide a lot if there are fish in the tank. I rarely see mine. Some people may have different experiences though.

    My mistake.

    freshwater shrimp?

Amano shrimp, also called ghost shrimp, are the better cleaners & larger and hardier than the other species. Their downfall is that they are less colorful.

    freshwater shrimp?

They are pretty good at being cleaners - eating leftover food, dead plant matter & some algae.

Has it ever crossed your mind...

What's this white stuff all over my tank?

Has it ever crossed your mind...

No. I guess if I knew the person and it was tongue-in-cheek, but I don't and it's hard to hear inflection in typed comments. Why is taking offense to that hard to believe?

Has it ever crossed your mind...

Murican. An impolite way of saying "American" while wanting to project a sense of dislike towards that country and its inhabitants.

Tips for making your aquarium look nice and pop out?

"Nice". Actually, very nice. And good point about artificial elements detracting from a natural look. Some ideas on the natural look: 1. I read in an aquarium book, long ago, that the "open space" shouldn't be in the middle of the tank because it creates too much symmetry - thus, looking...

Tips for making your aquarium look nice and pop out?

I agree with the dark background but not combined with dark substrate. There's no contrast then. I think a dark background and a lighter substrate looks better. Black sand is all the rage now but I think it looks fake. (No offense to anyone who uses it, the majority of tanks I see on here...

Tips for making your aquarium look nice and pop out?

I think that's a tank divider. There are black thingies at both ends of it. :)

j/k! That's a really good buy. My LFS has single pieces selling for more than $30.

    Crazy Stories Thread

I had a face-to-face encounter with a large possum. Much to my chagrin, it did not play dead - it hissed and showed its teeth (and I took off). Interestingly, possums don't actually "play dead". When threatened, they go into shock and pass out. It's a completely involuntary response.

Do you ever see grizzlies in the wild where you are? I live in Ohio, so no grizzlies (or even black bears, except further south). I think it'd be awesome to see a wild grizzly. (Of course, I get excited still when I see a deer & the two times I saw a coyote.)

Interesting. That's good to know. I'd love to have a tank with fish from the same area. Thanks. :)

    Hilarious Amazon Review

Evidently, it's a popular enough question to be generated under the "People also ask" heading (or beheading). Another one was "Can axolotls live forever?"
  24. otterblue

    Hilarious Amazon Review

I just can't imagine someone needing an answer to that question. "Oh, man. Whoops. Look what I did...let me see if that'll grow back." Like, if your axolotl no longer has a head, you may have some psychological problems. Thinking it could grow back - you may have a cognitive problem.

    Hilarious Amazon Review

Not Amazon, but I was looking up how long axolotls can live out of water & one of the Google questions was: "Can an axolotl regrow its head?' Not a kid I want to meet.

    Not so shy...😉

I don't have any yet, but I hope to get some for my next tank (hopefully in a few weeks). First, I need to learn more about them.

    My current six tank setups

These are awesome! Not only are they great, but each one is unique. If I could get one of my tanks to look this good I'd be happy.

Anyone else ready for the holidays?

(hug) Some people like being alone (I often do), but if you're looking for more people in your life then perhaps you could join a club or some social group. There's always nice people out there. And if you're content being alone, that's good too.

    Crazy Stories Thread

I volunteered one summer at the Columbus Zoo, which was a mistake because volunteer evidently means "pick up used diapers in the parking lot". Anyhow, once I finished I was walking around the zoo (picking up more trash). The zoo had just opened and no visitors were there yet. As I was...

WARNING: This story is gross, inappropriate and scatalogical - feel free to skip. So, one early morning about 6 years ago I was smoking a cigarette in the woods near the school (I'm a teacher). I suddenly had the sensation that I had to use the restroom - but, it was that kind where it was...

Is this overstocked? + Centerpiece Fish Question

The problem with German Blue Rams is that they prefer warmer water than what your minnows or rasboras would want. You could do a Bolivian Ram, I think.

    29g com tank

You're more knowledgable than me, so my only advice is don't get a German Blue Ram. Their ideal temperature doesn't match the rest of your stocking.

Yes, platys do that a lot. Be suspicious if your ex-girlfriend does, though.

    190L Tropical Journal

Hi. Your ram is actually a German Blue Ram, not a Bolivian Ram. :) I wouldn't get more different kinds of fish right now. Instead, increase your loach numbers and rehome some male gouramis. For loaches, a lot of activity/movement doesn't necessarily indicate happiness - it could be...

    Losing fish, advice appreciated

If you have a sick fish to treat, I would put it in a separate quarrantine tank and add any necessary medications there - rather than adding medication to the whole community tank.

    Fish Activity

Is one, or one type of fish in the center of the tank? Perhaps the other fish are intimidated by the dominant fish. Mollies can be pretty mean. I don't know about gouramis. Guess I'm saying: maybe some of your fish have asserted their dominance/territory over the others. Thus, they all stay...

I would keep the name Kirby and name the other white one ChuChu. The golden one can be Butterscotch.

    Surprise Platy fry

HIs big bugged out eyes on his little body makes it look like he's thinking, "Look it the size of these things! GET ME OUT OF HERE!" He's really cute. It looks like he can (hopefully) continue to avoid the other fish until he's a little bigger.
