    Fluval 204 - help

Thanks for the reply. :) I had taken a deep breath and figured it must have come out of the intake strainer seeing as the basket had come loose. I put it back and filter is working fine. I'm just a filter-phobe! Well cannister filters anyway - they frighten me - so many bits

    Fluval 204 - help

Have just cleaned my 204 when I set it off again the basket had fallen off the bottom of the intake tube. I put it back on but then noticed a ball floating in the water. Don't remember ever seeing a ball when I put the thing together in the first place. Has it come out of the aqua stop lever...

    All in one heater/filter/air pump

I've just bought one but I haven't set the tank up yet. Will let you know what its like when I do. Hydor used to make filters for Interpet but have now started making them under their own name.

    temp in uk/heaters in bowls?

http://www.fishandfins.co.uk/hydor-theo-aquarium-heater.htm The hydor mini heaters on this link might be ok for a fish bowl. I haven't used them myself but have heard they are good. I have a 3 gallon plastic hex with a 25 watt heater in and have had no problems.

    One eyed fish??????

I have a dwarf cory with one eye. I don't know how it lost the eye but the Rams are a chief suspect. It has only had one eye for a couple of weeks now and seems fine, it feeds and swims with the other corys. I am moving them soon to a smaller tank away from the Rams though.

Good advice on stocking from the RSPCA

I wouldn't expect too much from the RSPCA, in my opinion they are pretty hopeless. :( Most of their care books on animals I do know a lot about having been a breeder for many years, rabbits and guinea pigs are very poor. Its a shame they don't put more effort into this side of their organisation.

how do you feel about...posting pictures

Hi - As a newbie I really enjoy looking at the photos posted. It never occurred to me to post a reply because I thought the pictures were there to look at. It is really interesting to see other people's fish and tanks.

Need Ideas...want to start Female Comm.

I've got pygmy cories in my tank with Betta girls. They swim in shoals all around the tank and are very entertaining. The Betta girls don't bother them at all, in fact they just gently push their way in to have some of the wafer I drop in for the cories. I also have 3 Panda cories which I am...

I can second that - my female ram goes really dark and she's often really angry :-(

    Tropiquarium 55

Thank you for the replies. Yes it is just a little tank which is why I'm giving it some thought. I do love the guppys (remember I have 2 Betta males - somthing about the tails!). I also like gouramies but I thought it would be too small for them. I'm also thinking perhaps just put the Pygmies...

    My 'honorary' Betta

A few weeks ago we bought a trio of Rams. We now know we should only have bought a pair. The second female has been ostracised and chased off continually by the other two so in the absence of another male after a few days she joined my 3 female Bettas. She spends all of her time with them now...

    Tropiquarium 55

I have 120 litre community tank with 3 Rams, 3 female Bettas, 3 Panda Cories, 6 Glowlights and 6 pygmy cories in it. I also have a 25L and a 15L with a male Betta in each. I have now obtained a small Tripiquarium. I can't set it up until later in the summer because we are having a conservatory...

    External filters (180 ltr tank)

I have had a Fluval external for a couple of months now and I'm very pleased with it. Have opened it up to put peat into one of the compartments and it started up again no trouble.

    Tropiquarium 55

Well I did it. Of course, I took all the screws out from underneath before I discovered the light switch bit was all I needed to take off  Any way I've taken them out now and I can buy the equipment I want for it, thanks so much for your help :D

Thanks for that! I'm a girl too. Will now go and unscrew the lid and see if I can do it. :)

    Tropiquarium 55

Hi Bloozoo, thank you for the reply. Was it easy to remove the filter and heater as they are wired into the lid? I would much prefer everything separate anyway. Have never bought second hand before but this was a bargain.

    Tropiquarium 55

I bought a second hand tropiquarium. The filter isn't complete, only the powerhead and I have scanned the net looking for parts or a new one but haven't found what I'm looking for yet. I don't know at this point whether the heater and filter work anyway. Has anyone managed to move them, if so...

    Waterlife Sterazin

I have noticed some of the fish flicking their gills against rocks and ornaments. This has been happening for a couple of weeks. I can't see anything wrong with the fish. My water tests - Amonia 0, Nitrite 0, Ph 7.0, Nitrate 10 (This is Aquarium Pharmacueticals Test set). My lfs sold me the...

    Bottled cycle liquid?

Sorry mlee0302 - missed your question. I set up a 5 gallon for a male betta on the 17th April and a 30 gallon community tank on the 1st May. Both tanks took under 3 weeks to read 0 amonia and nitrite and to get a low nitrate reading. My nitrate is now consistent at 10 on my test kit. I did...

Info on female bettas needed please :)

You might be best sticking to just the one you have, as you already have quite a few fish in the 10 gallon. I think some people keep about 6 female bettas in a 10 gall. but not with other fish. I was told to have 4 or they would fight but my 3 are sisters and they arrived together and haven't...

Info on female bettas needed please :)

Info on female bettas needed please :)

I have 3 female bettas in a community tank with other fish. I put their Betta food into a feeding ring and they eat it out of that. They also take food out of my fingers and have taught the female Ram to do the same! My girls get along really well with each other and the other fish. They...

    Bottled cycle liquid?

I have used Cycle and Stress Zyme which is a similar product. I know a lot of people on here think they are rubbish, but I set up two new tanks and they both cycled very quickly, I don't know whether the products helped or not but I'm sure they didn't do any harm. :)

My husband bought his much longed-for rams yesterday. On the advice of the fish shop a male & 2 females. The male sees off both females a bit, the one female doesn't seem to be aggressive at all. The largest female is evil! She chases the other male and female constantly but also my...

    New tank

My son had 2 Oranda goldfish today, 1 is quite large. We bought him a 20 gallon tank and a large internal filter. fluval filter 204

I have a fluval 204. You make sure the pipe which feeds the water into the tank is above water level and pump the little stick up and down, you should hear the cannister filling up, once it is full the water starts to come out of the pipe into the tank, plug it in and away you go. :rolleyes...

    Hydor Mini Heater

I bought a 15 litre hex today in Index (they are closing down, everything reduced). It came with a light, air pump, underground filter (but I will connect the air pump to a sponge filter). Of course I want to put a new Betta boy in there but it will need some sort of heater. My 25 watt heater...

    Fluval Madness

Have you got the elbow things that they supply as an alternative to the clips? I used 2 of them on each hose and it shapes them over the back of the tank.

    Beanie baby containers

I have my filter pushed down the tank and a vertical slate decoration diagonally across in front of the filter, this slows the current right down, the water is fairly still on the top and a gentle current lower down. The betta doesn't mind this at all and he is only a baby. :)

How long to keep an old filter on a new tank?

I recently set up an external filter on my tank. I put the filter media from the old filter into the new filter along with new media because the external filter is bigger. So far so good. :fun:
