temp in uk/heaters in bowls?

Hi just wondering how people in the uk (in particular -essex) got on with their bettas in goldfish bowls.

Do you have to have a heater and if so how do you attach it to the side because of the shape?

Or do you find the temp stays high and stable enough throughout the year not to need one?

The hydor mini heaters on this link might be ok for a fish bowl. I haven't used them myself but have heard they are good.
I have a 3 gallon plastic hex with a 25 watt heater in and have had no problems.

i live in Florida in the USA and i am scared to death of getting my fish a heater ill have fried fishies i do keep a thermometer in hand just to check the temps

That Hydor mini heater looks like the right sort of thing, it looks like it would bend round a curve or if not i could just put it under the gravel.
