Oh, I understand why and am not saying it's undeserved. I just meant that he seems to be a glutton for punishment. I would have just shut up by now if I were him.

lol t1tanrush sure isn't getting much love around here lately. This is the 2nd or 3rd thread he's getting hammered on. :o

    Carbon (for Medication Removal)

Large wc's can't be too stressful on fish since Discus breeders do 1 or 2 100% water changes a day to get them to breed. I've never had Discus so I can't say from experience but I've heard these aren't very hardy fish.

    Green Algae

I would do more frequent wc's. Slimey blue/green algae usually means high phosphates and nitrates.

    Stupid Topic

I have inside of the stand. Make sure you have the cords looped below the power strip so if water leaks it drips to the floor and not straight down into the power strip. :) Edit: Whoops. Sorry TSWisla. I should have read the whole thread first.

    Live Foods.

Absolutely. I knew we could agree on something!!! :good: I think anyone keeping large cichlids and piranhas should have a minimum filtration of turning your tank over 10 times an hour since they are so messy, even when not feeding live foods. I love how this thread has gone and how civil this...

    Live Foods.

OK, thank you for replying. I understand what you're saying and agree to a point, actually. Either way, I respect your opinion. I would say that that most of us, no matter what fish we keep, aren't giving it enough room for their real life needs, foraging, breeding etc. Some cichlids patrol a...

    Live Foods.

No. rhoms will not eat anything BUT live foods at first. Sometimes up to a year in my experience. It's not spoiling my rhom to give him live foods it's keeping him alive until I can ween him off from live foods. These are wild fish, not bred in aquariums so that may be the reason they are...

My Angels, Pleco And Betta . . . Dead!

Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that. That's horrible. What are your water params? Temperature? Any aerosol been sprayed lately? What else has died in there previously? Do you suspect a disease perhaps?

    Live Foods.

Now let's not get personal or upset. :good: jayjay has always been polite and civil in all his posts I've ever seen. It's not often we can have a debate about a hot topic like this and I like reading everyones posts and we can all learn from one another. :)

    Live Foods.

If you have a poll, I would choose I'm for live feeding if others choose but not for me after I ween them. As long as the fish that is being fed isn't too large where he suffers. To each their own if it helps their fish survive.

    Live Foods.

I'm sorry, Lisa. I totally misunderstood you guys. Maybe it's the guilty conscience thing of having to right now when I don't particularly want to. I'm the biggest wimp piranha owner there is, most likely. I love piranha's because of the way they move so slowly around the tank. Like a shark...

    Live Foods.

Oh ok I misunderstood then. I thought you and Lisa were coming down on me for feeding live foods to my rhom, when I don't have much of a choice for a while. I agree, the Pygo's are very easy to change over to a non-live food, ime.

    Live Foods.

Piranha's don't always take dead foods, especially S. rhombeus, so that's not exactly true. If he would eat frozen foods right now I'd fed that as it's much easier for me. I don't like feeding feeder fish and I certainly get no enjoyment from it since I won't watch it.
  17. G

    Live Foods.

With some of the Serrasalmus, when young, they like only live foods. I've had a S. rhombeus before and it took almost a year before he would eat non-live foods regularly. This was after sometimes making him go 3-5 weeks without eating and I'd give in and feed live for fear of losing him...

    Live Foods.

Some fish will only eat live foods. One of my piranhas, a Black Rhom (S. rhombeus) is that way right now. Every once in a while he'll take a bite of raw shrimp I put in there but I don't feel that he's getting enough so I always keep 15-20 minnows in there for him. When I first add them he'll go...

What To Put With An Agressive Oscar

I dunno I guess I'm in the minority here but imo you're stuffed to the max in a 92g with a 10" Oscar and 2 more fish that are 6" and 8". I'd say that a single Oscar should have 75g minimum. Then you add the 1 chocolate albino common plec - 8" and 1 common syno - 6" plus at least 6 SD's...

How Well Can A Good Sized Red Devil Defend Itself?

No problem. I hope it works out for you. I'm sure you already know this and have a lot of knowledge or you wouldn't attempt to overcome compatibility issues but what I do is a large wc and moving the decorations around. As a last resort, depending on how much I wanted the new fish I was...

How Well Can A Good Sized Red Devil Defend Itself?

What other fish do you have? IME, and from friends that have had them, they are very good at defending themselves against any other cichlids close to their size. Most labiatus have a psycho stage and once they hit that they can sometimes go on a killing rampage. Some others don't get pshycho...

    Albino Oscars.

There's no difference between the albino or other strains, it all boils down to the particular fish. It doesn't hurt when they bite. They don't have the pseudocanine teeth like guapotes and flowerhorns have.

    How To Change The Gravel

I think it looks nice. If you like it then that's all that matters. Personally, since you asked, I like black gravel. I think it really brings out the colors in fish. Whenever I would change the gravel, I would do a gravel vac, then start taking all the gravel out with a large plastic cup...

    6x2x2 Big Cichlid Aquarium

IMO, they're a great fish though. I'm definitely going to get another one some day. Tons of personality but mine didn't like me very well. He would always try and attack me when I would clean his tank. I had to take a net to fend him off from me while cleaning and he would just tear it up and...

How Long Do Fish Sleep For?

Depends on your definition of sleep. There are many studies that have been done and some differ slightly but the consensus (from what I've read in the past, at least) is that the definition of sleep needs to be defined in order to answer this question. If what is meant is to say do they sleep...

    6x2x2 Big Cichlid Aquarium

No, I certainly wouldn't recommend a Flowerhorn with any other fish except in very large tanks. Even if both are hybrids, it won't matter. I'm not saying 100% it won't work, as all fish are different within a species, but in general FH's will kill anything else put with them. Extremely mean...

    Albino Oscars.

I've had quitre a few Oscars over the years. IMO, they have more personality than any other fish I've ever kept. Oscars are far from my favorite fish so I'm not just being biased. They do tend to sulk and pout at times when they don't get their way but I find that as a personality trait, not a...

    Anyone Raised Black Piranhas

What do you mean by Black piranhas? Some call the Serrasalmus rhombeus the black piranha but they are also called White Piranha. I've owned about every piranha and have a black piranha right now. Got him about a month and a half ago at 1". I've had them before too. They are great fish...

Please Can You Help Id These 8 Malawis?

Ferris is the man when it comes to African cichlids!!!! :good: I only knew 4 of those (1,2,4 and 5) and have never heard of #6 and #7 before. #1 Definitely looks like a male M. chipokae but like Ferris said, it is really stressed about something so it's hard to tell for sure.

    Pseudotropheus Crabro

the males will have more eggspots on their tails. Usually 3 or 4. Females will usually have 2 or less. They can change colors instantly from female to male. Both sexes can and they did that a lot in my tanks.

    Whats A Big Fish For A 29

Sanchezi is a piranha but it stays small. I think CFC has one in a 20g. They are mean, tho. The ones i had wouldn't let me stick my hand in the tank so it was a chore at times. You'd have to keep him alone as he'd likely kill anything put in with him.

That's pretty impolite. Discus Angel was only trying to help. Even if the advice given was wrong you shouldn't be like that. If one takes the time to reply it's because they care and want to help. Happens to be that pretty much all the advice in this thread is right anyways. South American...

Things I'd Like To Change About Fishkeeping...

Things I'd Like To Change About Fishkeeping...

Ok, I see where you're coming from then. You mean huge fish that need 1,000g aquariums not fish that need to be kept alone. IMO, there's a big difference between the two. By the sounds of your original post it sounded like you meant cichlids and piranhas for example, like a S. elongatus or...

Things I'd Like To Change About Fishkeeping...

Basicly, everything you want to ban/limit or change can be overcome with consumer knowledge. If there's not a market for something it won't be around long. I don't get this, tho. Firstly, I take it that you don't like single kept fish so you'd be more than happy to get rid of them or at least...
