well if you can get a hold of an 8-10 ft tank you could get quite a few different fish and not many kinds need a bigger tank then that. I would recommen getting a bunch of different community fish if you have that big tank. in a twenty gallon you could do a shoal of smaller fish like harlequin...

its a three spot gourami. it has two feelers on one side and one on the other.

I recently aquired a tank and with it a gourami and some other fish. The gourami has 2 ventral fins or feelers on on side of his body. I have never seen that before and was wondering if it was abnormal.

if you go to a home improvement store they should have play sand. I have heard (but dont know for sure) that silica sand can have rough edges that can hurt some digging fish.

your right. the beneficial bacteria is in your filter, gravel etc... How often and how much you change your water seems to vary alot. i do about a 30 % water change once a week. I think it depends on how long your tank can go on its own without any maintenance from you before your water readings...
