Where do you get sand?

I need to set up my new tank but I want a sand substrait.
Trbl is I cant find any sand! Just buiders grade sand! I tried toys r us and they have none either!!
I hear silica sand is good? Any ideas?

Please dont waste your time and mine by saying "get sand from the sea-side". I live inland.

Argos do play sand cheap, and I've been told this is OK to use!!

if you go to a home improvement store they should have play sand. I have heard (but dont know for sure) that silica sand can have rough edges that can hurt some digging fish.

We got B&Q in the UK? I have never seen play sand there though.

I just tried to find out how much the playsand is at Argos, but their website seems to be down. I think from memory it's about £5 for a bag which will be plenty enough to do your 40g.

Now I just have to look like an idiot trying to carry it to my car.
I'm a 9.5 stone beast so a bag of sand weighs in heavier than me and has a better punch.
I'll get my girlfriend to carry it I think.

I also used playsand from argos. I think it was £2.50 for 15kg. I got 7, so there was no way I was carrying them. Instead, I ordered it online and got them to deliver it to my door (and bring it up the stairs ) for £3.50 or something.

Bargain.

I am not rich, I am afraid. Far from it! Shame, I always liked the thought of summer weddings.

It didn't honestly take that much, some sand and plants and any tank can look great IMO.

Dont be so cheap and go for the silica sand, i recently got some for one of my tanks and was so pleased with the results i have changed all but two of my twelve tanks over to it. You should be able to order the sand from any large fish store, most branches Maidenhead aquatics should carry it as a stock item, expect to pay around 80p-£1 a kilo or £12.50 for a 25 kilo sack.
