    Algae Eater

He mentions in the first post it's twenty gallon tank. In my opinion, the best cleanup crew for tanks with choco chip stars (which as mentioned will outrun and consume snails) are fast moving crustaceans such as hermit or true crabs. If the algae is one the walls, just scrape it off, either by...

    Do Fish Sleep?

They do sleep, but certainly not exactly like we humans do. Rather, they fall into a trance-like state, usually retaining basic muscle control. A notable exception to this is cleaner wrasses which simply "stop" when the lights are extinguised and sleep wherever they land. Some, such as...

Few Q's If Sum1 Can Help Me

No problem about the questions, I'm sorry if I came off that way. :good: I would, with that very system, look into mushroom corals and colony polyps. They are not usually recommended for a 'centerpiece' but they can be very beautiful and are easy to care for. As for shrimp, I would add cleaner...

    29 Gallon Build

Hawkfish would be fine... unless you have sexy shrimp or similarly tiny crustaceans. They do not eat corals (ever), but larger hawkfish are known to eat tiny snails.

Few Q's If Sum1 Can Help Me

Livestock could include a few small fish, as well as shrimp, corals, crabs, etcetera... anything small enough. As for the lighting you may want to look into a different unit, but it's otherwise a very good one, having both a UV sterilizer and a protein skimmer. The lighting shouldn't hold you...

Few Q's If Sum1 Can Help Me

The nano tank in the link looks fine. The lighting is a little bit weak, but you should be a able to work with it. Marine tanks are actually far easier than most people think. Easier than freshwater in my opinion. On a side note, it is best to ask individual specific questions... it is...

    Coral Id?

Class - Anthozoa Subclass - Hexacorallia/Zoantharia Order - Corallimorpharia Thanks or the info. As you can plainly see, one of my biggest problems is that when species within a genus or family are very similar to each other, that's when my memory/interest begins to fail. Which is why I...

    Nano Urchins?

I think a tuxedo would be fine for near life. They do not grow very large. They main problem people seem to have with urchins is that they eat coralline. Check this page: http://wetwebmedia.com/urchinsii.htm

Constantly Battling Against A Low Ph

I could perhaps recommend a refugium with 24 hour lighting, preferably. The extra photosynthesis should help lower the CO2 to a level below what simple gas exchange at the surface could do. Though I agree that a pH of 7.9 to 8.1 is perfectly fine.

    Coral Id?

Seeing them move I would have called them a mini carpet anemone or furry mushroom... sad thing is I'm still confused on the genera of mushroom corals. I seem to have heard the same one being called several different names. So on this topic Ski I concede to you.

    Taking Requests

In Hawai'i I from a mottled brow mantis scuttling over rocks. Watched it for a few seconds before a giant wave threw me into the reef; I braced with my hands, and the mantis ran right over them into a cave. Very neat.

    4.5 Gallon Pico Reef

I am going to be completely honest here... those nemo tanks are absolute monstrocities. We can only hope people don't put a living 'Nemo' and 'Dory' in them. :shout:

    Coral Id?

I do not claim to be any good with stony corals, but could it be a Galaxea? If so, I think where you have it will suit it fine. Moderate water movement, high light. Try feeding it with bits of plankton. Beware that they can grow quickly, and they have long sweeper tentacles (sometimes longer...

    Fish Feeding, Please Help

Lots of times people blame cyanide poisoning for dying fish when it was actually nothing of the sort. Not implying anything here, but the symptoms are quite distinctive, and though I have had plenty of fish die I can only say one that died of cyanide, and even that was perhaps unlikely...

Cant Decide What Else I Want!

Melichthys, Xanthichthys and Odonus triggers are all largely reef-safe. However I was joking about the titan trigger as they grow to 2 1/2' and are capable of causing severe harm to anything they take a dislike to, this includes tankmates, heaters, and human arms. As for wrasses...

    Eels

Gymnothorax can usually be kept with cleaner shrimp. I personally favour small members of this genus over Echidna for inclusion in the reef tank, as Echidna usually eat crustaceans. This is probably resulting from the fact I usually only keep "tough" fish that are unlikely to be eaten by a small...

    Clown Fish

Captive bred BTA's will do fine under a 150 watt halide or boosted fluorescents, that is, a generous amount of T-5 HO, T-12 VHO, or PC.

    Reef Tank

Excellently done. The rock layout scheme is almost exactly how I want my 90 gallon to be. The anemone looks awesome as well, good luck with it. Glad to see the eel is still feeding/living, though somehow I'm not surprised. ;) Also glad to see someone that didn't kill their aiptasia, I can never...

    Coral Hosts For Clownfish

To be honest a captive bred bubble tip fits that bill perfectly. I personally am not really a fan of clowns hosting corals, even if the clown does not kill or severely irritate the coral, the clown doesn't receive any health benefits and can actually become more prone to disease by some...

Well done, sir. Since the marine section alread has so many pins, one of us should PM Steelhealr to create a basic pinned topic with links to this page, the starfish page, and any other info pages we create.

    Red Bamboo

I may have an idea what you are talking about, and if I do ("red seaweed"?), it is reasonably easy to keep, but you will need to keep it trimmed. It can rapidly grow out of control.

Is what I say... moderating isn't all about knowledge. Though I still think it would be best if the mods were assigned to their best sections. Ski would perhaps 'get my vote' except for one thing... he, SH and Nav would produce a fair bit of overlap in knowledge, with other crucial areas (such...

    Do Marine Tanks Need Airstones?

If sponges are brought out of the water, they often get bubbles stuck inside of them. This can rot them from the inside out. A bunch of bubbles swirling around them will not have the same effect. In my opinion my comment was fairly valid as the vast majority of our animals are going to be...

    A Salt And Battery

On a similar note it would be nice if each of the fora in the marine section could have it's own mod... we each have our specialties and I don't think any one of us (Nav and Great Lakes included) could cover it all perfectly... but I suppose moderating isn't all about knowledge.
