Are there any possible candidates of urchins that could do ok in a 20 gallon tank for a while? I know about the coralline and bulldozing thing, which i am find with, lots of superglue and i plan on a 4 side viewable tank so lack of coralline is fine with me. Preferably one that eats GHA since it does seem to be persistent in my tank.

As an extra note, i do plan on a 37 gallon cube upgrade next summer (northern hemisphere summer) with a 20 gallon sump. This doesnt mean that the 20 gallon is a grow out tank though, i still want it to be sustainable in a 20 gallon in case (hate to say it) the upgrade never happens....

Wow, dunno about longterm, but a very small tuxedo urchin could prolly spend up to a year or two before it outgrows the nano. I've seen some like silver dollar size that would take a while to get big. Longterm though, I don't know of any that would be suitable, yet I'm not an urchin expert

Mine/10-lined urchins (Eucidaris metularia) stay pretty small, but might not be safe with some corals. They'll eat pretty much any type of algae.
EDIT: should have said any type of soft algae. I haven't ever seen my urchin eat coralline.

I have a black longspine in my tank now for almost 2 years. See my TFF Index post on it. SH
