Hi guys,

after a death of my cardinal and coral beauty I end up upset and really confused.
My water was tested fine, shrimp, corals and other inverts are doing great.
My guess is that problem was a sick fish or stressed.

I want to start now with clown fish, I want to get a pair of course, but I have
only 5 gal quaranteen tank. Will it be enough to have 2 clowns there for 2 weeks?
or maybe I can get one and later another one?

Thank you for your help.

Just an observation, but you may be better introducing the clowns into the main tank first off if thats where they are going to be housed eventually, as you have no other fish I wuldnt think there is any need to quarantine them, if you are intent on using quarantine tank there should be no problem for a short period of time, the only concerns are that when the fish outgrow the tank you need to either give them up or re house them.

Also before you buy them you may want to talk to the LFS you use to get a better idea how long they have had them there for, given your unfotunate experience with cardinal and coral beauty it may help to re-assure you, we all know what its like when you start to think something was wrong with your water or anything else but all your paramters are fine.

As another point I was having a hell of a trouble with xenia and a leather yet all my parameters were fine (had a dodgy nitrate tst from API do not use the same test kit!), i decided as a precaution to add purigen as it removes impurities carbon cannot deal with, but also it wouldnt hurt if your concerend to get a second opinion on your water tests.

Best of luck and keep us updated :good:

I would disagree with the need to put them in a QT tank. Yes if they are the only fish in there (and no more fish are going to be added) then no big deal. The problem comes if they develop ICH. You then need to net them out again to put them in QT to treat them and you then also risk introducing the ich to the system.

Personally I would put them in the QT for a couple of days to observe them. It they seem to be ok then put them in the main tank.

100% agree with the rest though :)

Buu would be enough 5gal tank to quaranteen 2 fish, I think one is okay but 2?

Also how do I have to treat them? any medications?

Thanks

I wouldnt put more than one in there for a long time unless it's a really small fish. You wont need medication unless the fish is sick...otherwise just feed it really rich and healthy foods.

I have decided not to take more risk of losing a fish. Just got a new 10 gal tank to use as
a quaranteen tank. Hopefully it will be enough.

I set it up with small hang-on filter with activated carbon cartridge, 1200 maxijet pump, and 100W heater.
Lightning is not that good I think it will work.

I fill it 50% with the water from my main tank and 50% new saltwater, how long does it have to run
before I can put new fish. Also, I have a small filter on q tank, does it recommended to add some
additives into the tank to keep proper quality of the water?

I do not use any additives in my main tank.

Thank you.
