Never ever ever ever ever change your filter media, its where you benificial bacteria live. The manufactures say change it regularly so you have to buy more media from them. Tom

Well, the bacteria in our filter eat ammonia & nitrites & produce nitrate as waste, the only way to remove nitrates is water changes. If you have zero nitrates it means that nothing is producing them, ergo, a problem with the nitrifying bacteria. Tom
