New Tank. Bad Stocking

Hey guys i was give a fish tank today. The tank is a rio 300, so its a 300L tank. The current stocking is

1 x Clown loach
10 x Bristle nose plecos
1 x angel fish
1 x Fighter Fish
1 x Sailfin pleco
1 x Flying fox

OK this is a poor stocking what changes should i make to put things right. I want to add some neons but how many. Is this tank big enough for a sailfin pleco and the clown loach. if its fine can i add more clown loaches.

If you took out the bristlenoses, and probably also the sailfin pleco, you could maybe squeeze a few clown loaches in. Your tank is on the borderline in terms of size. Remove the flying fox as they are territorial so might get nasty with your clown loaches who are already on the bottom. Then take out either the angel or the fighter, and shape your mid and upper level stocking around what's already in the tank.

I'd say your tank is a little small for clowns. If its a old rio 300 then it's 300 litres, if it's a newer rio 300 then it will be 350 litres due to slightly increased dimensions. Either way it's still only going to be 4 feet long. Clowns need to be in groups of 6+ (I'd say a group of 10 is ideal) and need tanks of 6 feet long. A 6x2x2 would be ideal but bigger being better. Many people say they will be ok for a while in a minimum of 4 feet but I disagree. They need room to move and grow.

I'd rehome the sailfin plec as they get to around 2 feet and I'd rehome 8 of the bristlenoses and keep 2. A single angel is fine.

I have no experience on flying fox or fighting fish so can't comment on them.

Just read on another forum that Angel fish will eat neons, so if you got rid of the angel and kept the betta it would be doable, but otherwize it's ix nay on the neons

But carrdinals should be fine, I have a shool of 15 cardys in with my angel & no problems.

Hi guys thanks for the reply. Im guessing the Flying fox, Pleco, Fighter and clown loach will be going along with most of The bristlenose leaving me with

1x angel
2x Bristle nose
Now i really like a group of small fish like neons together how many could i get in here or could i get some neons and some other fish like that?

I wouldn't keep neons with an angel. The angel will or eventually will eat neons. You would be better off with a group of around 12 cardinals as they grow bigger than neons and are less likely to get eaten

Can i add corys. Im bit worried as i have gravel and slate in the tank

I wouldn't add corys to any tank with gravel as it can damage their barbels. If you were to change to sand then you would be ok

Depends on the size of the gravel, if its small or rounded preferably both they'd be alright
