New Tank, Finance?

Hmm true, I guess if I can get it on finance I could spend more and get a larger tank? I still need to ask my lfs if they do finance too so will keep every updated! Haha

Thanks for all the advice guys I was only looking at spending around 100 pound and paying it off pretty quickly. I'm going to look into it more today anyway :)

much better off buying somthing second hand and paying cash if thats all your spending. £100 wont get you a lot from a shop.

I'd agree with this :) I had my jewel rio 400 which is 5 foot, 450 litre 2nd hand, cost me £200 and I had it with the stand, 2 300 watt heaters, sand, fluval fx5 external filter and bogwood. It's like new. The guy i bought it off even delivered it to my door :) there are bargains out there. I'm just looking to upgrade again now lol

Maidenhead Aquatics do custom build tanks too :good: though... I think the biggest they can have built is 7 x 2 x 2 just because its too hard to get delivered to the shop otherwise, wont fit through a lot of doors.

The company they use will build whatever size tank you like, but bigger than that means an extra £450 or so to have it built on site lol

Danios will need a tank of around 3 foot long with more being better. Not due to their size but because the are very active and fast swimmers so they need room. Not sure about the other fish sorry. Nice little tank though :)

I take it the tank was not cycled before adding the fish? Did you add any mature media to the filter to kick start the cycle? If not then the filter has got no beneficial bacteria to deal with the waste the fish will produce and so ammonia builds up in the tank which is poisonous to fish. You are now doing a fish-in cycle. My advice to you would be to read about fish-in cycles and fishless cycles on here, there are plenty if threads about them. Then get yourself a api liquid master water test kit ASAP. They are around £25-£35 on eBay.

Because your in a fish-in cycle you will need to be doing around 90% daily water changes to keep the ammonia levels down. Test your water with the kit daily. Ammonia and nitrite need to always read 0 with nitrates reading around 20.

Alternatively you could take the fish back to your lfs and do a fishless cycle by adding household ammonia to the tank daily and testing the water. It's a lot easier, no fish are at harm and doesnt take as long. It will take roughly 6-8 weeks until your tank is cycled and ready for fish. Anyway thats just a very rough guide to cycling and it probably wont make much sense so i apologise in advance. The threads on cycling you can find on this forum explain thoroughly in much more easy to understand detail. Good luck :)

It is quite a tall tbh it doesn't look it but they seem content swimming up and down and around the tank!

They will probably be ok for a while depending on their size. Danios do need a longer tank more than a high one though. Higher tanks are only normally considered for things like angels.
