I don't know much about pH and it dropping like that. Anyway, as far as the Bio-Spira, my understanding is that it's not designd to be used without fish. They are supposed to go in at pretty much the same time. It is supposed to go into water between 7 and 8.5 pH though.

They are as fake as it gets. LOL. The most expensive one is about $4.50 for the small Amazon clump. The rest are the Petsmart super budget variety. I like real plants, but I'm in no way ready to deal with them. So if that changes your post, not a big deal!!! :)

That particular one is at Petco. The ship was the killer. The two pieces are like $23 apiece. That rock sure adds a lot of interesting texture and tunnels, IMO, though.
