    Ngara Flametail - How Much?!

Perfect guess rifty and spot on!! It was indeed Ark Aquatics. I noticed the Flametails when browsing around the store, and I actually went back in to ask one of the guys if they were priced correctly. I tend to avoid buying in that shop now - they are not at all the same as they were a year...

    Fish Id Please...

Hoping someone could ID two fish for me. I've had these a long while now, and still don't actually know what they are: Fish One The photo of the other fish below isn't very good, I don't have a full body shot of him, but can take one if needed. (It's the same fish in my Avatar) Fish Two...

    Ngara Flametail - How Much?!

Just saw two 'wild caught' Ngara Flametails at my LFS - they were priced at £90 each!! Must say I was kinda shocked by the price. Is this the usual sort of price they sell for?

    Knife Fish

They will come out at feeding time, but they don't really like exposed areas or bright light. So if you have some sheltered areas in your tank - it's much more likely you will get to see the knife fish regular.

    New 25L Tank

I may have missed something here. But if the OP had ammonia in the tank a while ago - but now has 0.0 ammonia, and 0.0 nitrites, and still hhas fish in the tank which would be producing waste ammonia (which must be getting broken down to 0.0). How is that not cycled?

    Are They Wrong Again?

Not to further derail this thread - but it's unlikely in the extreme that 'legal proceedings' would occur. Everyone is entitled to expressing an opinion in public. But yes you are right not all Pets at Home are bad. My local one is actually very good.

    Are They Wrong Again?

Discus and Elephant Nose are pretty easy to look after - dispite their reputation. However there is "aquarium hobbiest easy" and "pets at home easy" the two are not the same. Many people who go into Pets and Home are looking for a 'maintenance free pet'...in which case none of the fish you...

    Fish Sitting On The Bottom

Only wash one of the sponges, not both. Also make sure you wash it in tank water. You will lose a little beneficial bacteria, but not much and it will repopulate quickly. You need to get the flow of your filter back up to full speed, else you are going to keep getting ammonia problems.

    Fish Sitting On The Bottom

Seems strange. One thing that happend to me before is that my filter got clogged up with sand which made it run slow. So I got a small ammonia spike. Could be that the slow running of your filter is preventing it from getting rid of all the necessary ammonia. It maybe worth taking out one of...

    Fish Sitting On The Bottom

Yeah, certainly do that water change. But you will also need to find out why you are getting ammonia. How long have you had the tank? It's possible I guess, that some beneficial bacteria we removed with the old substrate. Have you cleaned your filter lately, or made any changes to it?

    Fish Sitting On The Bottom

Ok, I used that same stuff in my tank for 2 years without problem...so unless it has been changed - it shouldn't be the sand alone which is causing the problem. Was the sand washed? Also, to ask the obvious - have you checked the Ph levels and ammonia levels?

    Toothpaste Safe For Fish?

Problem is I can't really empty the tank. However I can lower the level of the water down below the level of the scratches. However, I'm pretty certain some toothpaste would end up in the tank. Also, I'd be using Tom's of Maine Toothpaste which has all natural ingrediants. Mainly, Xylitol...

    Toothpaste Safe For Fish?

This may sound like a crazy question - but is it safe to use toothpaste in an aquarium? I have a few very light scratches in the glass (light enough that I can't feel them). I've removed scratches in glass like this before with toothpaste...however. Is toothpaste harmful to fish?

    Alternatives To Gravel Vacuum?

I also never gravel vac. I have good enough circulation that nothing settles on the bottom of the tank. I also try to ensure there are no deadspots in the tank. If you get a powerhead you may find you won't have to gravel vac either. Though the higher circulation does tend to disturb the...

It's been a while since I posted any photos here - and this is the first time I am posting my Malawis. Brown Water

If you don't like the Tannins (if that is indeed what is causing the tinge) then if you put some Carbon in your filter - it will help clear the brown tinage away pretty fast. But the carbon will need to be changed pretty frequently as it will only remove a certain amount of tannins.

    New Fish Keep Dying!

Nice to hear about your niece Mariuel - I'm sure she will love the tank! Well we ended up putting two new platys in the tank yesterday instead of one. And so far they are both doing really well - it's been over 24hrs now. So not sure what the hell was up with that other tank, but it was...

Well the tank had a glass lid that was snug fitting, she was unable to get the lid off she tried from time to time, but could never do it - I could only do it by slipping a knife in there.

    New Fish Keep Dying!

My daughter is only 5 years old, which is why we went for a small tank in the first place. I felt (and still feel) that a "massive" 60litre tank is too large for a 5 year old. Yet at the same time I want to teach her responsibility of taking care of things and she really loves having fish. So...

Yes, I will get another tank. I'm about to head there now - will probably get either a 40litre or 60litre tank to replace it. The tank is in my daugthers room and there are no chemicals nearby (at least I hope not!!). It could be an electrical fault with the filter perhaps, though if so, it...

    New Fish Keep Dying!

So this morning I found the second guppy dead. Which now makes a total of nine lost fish. The platy that I put in the tank yesterday and acclimitized according to Kitty's method is constantly resting on the bottom of the tank...which isn't looking good. However the guppies were breathing...
