What size tank and what fish are in it? I find fertz are only useful for tanks that dont have many fish or high ammonia producers.

I've become lazy with tanking care of my 10g snail tank to feed my puffers and now just keep em in a jar. It's so much easier to take care of 10/10 would reccomend for those that take care of puffers.

Actually the used comes with 2 filters which can make your life easier and comes with everything. That will save you in the long run. See if you can get it for 300 or less

Fahaka also enjoy mice when they get larger. Tbh reason why I got rid of my fahaka cork just too much agression for other fish and I enjoy watching puffers interact with other fish.

It could also be a parasite as well. All my puffers when I first got em had them. Do you see a faint black ring anywhere on your puffer?

For now I'd do a 50% water change every other day 3 times plus increase air in the tank. Oh and clean out your filter

Use something else those aren't the best. liquid test kits are the most reliable for their money but still only give you a ballpark result. Though the beak on your puffer looks a little long what does their diet consist of?

I run off a well in the woods though so my water slightly acidic 6.4 to 6.6 in the summer and 6.8 to 7 in the winter

I have some in my gsp tank and I see them every once in a while with a salinity of 1.015 to 1.020

Jeez I have ghost shrimp in all my tanks and I haven't bought any in about 4 years. I've moved 3 apartments drained all the tanks moved em and set them up like 1 week later then bam there they were. I wonder if their eggs/breeding are similar to a killifish?
