Pearls Of The Antilles... Llj's Planted Marine

Looks great. That is a large rock those mushrooms are on! I am so used to protecting the preciously little space I have in my picos, I am constantly on the lookout for pieces on little to no rock!

    Can't Decide What To Do

Haha, a Peacock Mantis tank would be interesting that's for sure. Almost certain I will use this as a sump ... though I am having trouble figuring out how I would use it in its current format. I would like the huge main area to be a refugium, but need to work out where the skimmer and return...

Pearls Of The Antilles... Llj's Planted Marine

Hope you find Spinypants one day, but if not as you said he will still contribute to the tank. Sounds like you are almost ready for some (other) life in there.

Potential plan for this tank (it would be the one on the bottom ... )

    Can't Decide What To Do

Yeah I am thinking the same, particularly as I just tried filling with water and can still clearly see some of the scratches. I am going to look into a custom built tank of the same length and width, but slightly shallower (1000x40x30 I think). And drilled, so I can easily use this as a sump.

    Can't Decide What To Do

Yeah I guess I'll clean it and fill it and see how it looks. Maybe I can clean beneath the brace, or if not perhaps remove it, clean, and re-stick. (annoying I can't change the thread title - horror of horrors, a typo!)

    Can't Decide What To Do

I bought this tank on eBay recently, a) because it was cheap, b.) because it was rimless and c) because it was about the size I was thinking of (ideal would be shallower, but it's close). It is 100cmx40cmx40cm, or 36"x16"x16" for you Americans. About 40 gallons I think. It has a filter...

    Peter's Petite Pair Of Picos

I have no idea whatsoever, haha. It was sold as a $5 morph, and that's all the LFS knew. Bought a bright orange one today which looks great under the blue lights. And in trying to rearrange things a little, my clumsy fat hands knocked things around so I ended up completely rescaping. I'll...

Well, some of it! One hermit crab per tank, one snail per tank. Definitely need to add a couple more snails I think. My snail just spent a few hours sitting on top of the poor polyps ... =0)

    Fry Eaters

We had a platy fry, kept it in a breeding net for a few weeks until it was a good half an inch long and looked like a real fish. Let it into the tank and .. three days later, no sign. I swear our betta hunted it down and ate it. I saw it stalking the poor thing a few times. RIP Stephen (Fry).

Well I've finally made a few additions to the tanks! In my tank: Ricordea Palythoas Morphs And in Ang's: Ricordea Morphs Red Sea Fan/Gorgonian(?) I also had this delivered today, which was for my saltwater storage tub to go with the heater and keep it fresh: But I was surprised at...

    Peter's Petite Pair Of Picos

CUC may depend on availability, again in the stores I visited recently they only had a few snails and hermits. So was thinking of starting with couple of snails (I can't recall which they had) and a hermit. But I need to look more closely, wasn't really considering CUC at that point! As for...

    Peter's Petite Pair Of Picos

Haha true. Well I take it as a very positive sign that Ammonia is so much lower than yesterday in the problem tank! We did a 75% water change last night, but a day on it's still only at 1.0. I know this is still too high, but given Nitrite has remained high and nitrate has increased, suggests...

    Peter's Petite Pair Of Picos

Oh I am sure there was some die off, whether it was just sponge and stuff, or worms ... something definitely died in there! The only livestock (that we know of) are the livestock and teh feather duster worm we see now and again. I am sure the clam hasn't survived the dramatic swings...

    Peter's Petite Pair Of Picos

Well Ang's tank still has crazy stats, ammonia 8.0+, Nitrite 5.0, Nitrate 5.0 ... so daily water changes are in order for the time being. My largely base rock tank is starting to cycle I think, amm .25, nitrite .5 and nitrate 5.0. So hopefully the seeing idea is working okay.

    Peter's Petite Pair Of Picos

Thanks, Gray. Well my tank today was rancid - stank to high heaven and had a thick gloopy film on the water. So I decided to take everything out, rinse the rocks, and wash the tank, heater, pump etc. The rocks smelled absolutely disgusting, even after I had rinsed like crazy. So I took the...

I'll see if I can find out more about the LR this weekend. We did clean the rock a fair bit, took off any obviously dead sponges etc. I guess we just missed the rinsing stage. I think I will take the rock out again this weekend and do that, along with rinsing the sand to get rid of the dead...

    Peter's Petite Pair Of Picos

Actually the scallop was in the other tank, which seems to be okay. Saw the feather duster in there again this morning, so a panicked water change in that tank was probably unnecessary. I am 90% sure that my tank's crash was due to the amount of livestock in there and as you say, a death or...

DISASTER =0( Came home today and the house STANK of rotten sea. Rushed over to the tanks and my tank is really cloudy, and doesn't take long to notice all of the dead worms on teh sand or the crab that isn't moving. EVERYTHING in the tank seems to be dead. Crabs, worms, shrimps, probably the...

llj, I'll make sure to ask next time I can. It was an LFS that was a bit of a drive away, but I might give them a call this weekend. bae, thanks for the first ID! I figured they were pistol shrimp but couldn't find a matching pic. They click. And click, and click =0)

No, they didn't specify. But living on the south coast of Australia, I'd assume it was fairly local? Here's a pic outlining the crabs, though the pics are bad quality. As for water stats, I haven't yet tested it further. I need to get myself the saltwater tests this weekend so I can stay...

No sign of the scallop since I posted about it ... hopefully still hiding away somewhere. In other news, a LOT has happened with the tank this week. We saw a couple of signs of life after a day or two, but today, five days in, the life has exploded (or at least become visible!). Where to...

Yeah I will be getting a saltwater kit so I can get more accurate readings, for sure. Some more critters for ID! I am guessing these would be bristleworms? In the middle below the flash (had to use the flash as it was in a dark recess: On the point of the rock, white colour: Seems to be...

Haha no worries, thanks so much for your help. I figured I would put it back in for now, we don't have any corals for it to bother even if it is 'bad'. Whether it's good for the tank longer term is something we can worry about later. Though I wonder if it needs food? =0)
