I have seen guppies do this before and I think they are just playing. Just to be on the safe side though, are they displaying any other signs of illness? Are they still eating normally? any marks on them? etc

OK thanks again for that. Sorry to ask more questions but I keep thinking of different things... Do we wash the substrate just the same as I would for a tank? Also how do I work out how many inches of fish (or whatever the coldwater term is) that we can keep?

Thanks for that Ryan. I've been looking at some pond fish today and I must admit I'm not much for the fancy varieties anyway and those ones with googling eyes just look freaky :blink:

OK, next question, how do I keep cats out of the pond? Would strong netting surfice?

Not sure how deep it's going to be yet. It will be about 2 metres wide by 3 metres long. Thats part of what I was asking. How deep should we make it?

Yeah thats what I thought about the Koi/Size thing. Well really I'm open in terms of size. It's going to be a raised pond because it's going to be bridging two different height levels of the garden. It will be above the ground on one side and dug into the higher ground level at the other side...

OK so my boyfriend told me last night that as part of the major work we are doing in the back garden, he is planning a pond!!!! and he wants fish in it!!!! :kana: I'm so excited! :X Anyway, I know absolutely nothing about ponds, especially ponds with fish so I need you guys to help me...

Bring him to the Sea Life Centre!!! I'm sure he'd love that as a birthday treat. Yes, as tanks said I'll be there. I've still got a buy one get one free ticket so someone can go halves on the "buy one" bit with me :P

Keep your eye on that then. If the behaviour continues, you may want to re-evaluate the fish you want to keep.

How did it lose the eye? If it's healthy in all other ways , still active and feeding well etc then I would keep it alive.

OK, so I've just been to stay with my friend for a week and she has a coldwater hex tank with 3 different goldfish in there. In the tank is a filter and a tube which contains an air stone. Please excuse me if these are silly questions but what I'm wondering if do the "normal" rules I've come...

I wanna go swimming :P It's going to look absolutely amazing. I do however think you might need a second house to keep all your other belongings in cos that tank seems to take up all your room!

I personally have no problem with the hanging net ones. I keep a peaceful community freshwater tank and kept my platty babies in one when they were born. I found that the holes in the floating plastic ones were too big for the smaller fry anyway.

Thanks for the comments. Yes Aqua the plecs are loving it. One of them has even deserted his home (ornament front left of the tank) and is now residing in the mangrove root thingy :D

Feeding them twice a day won't help though. They simply don't need that much. I feel mine once a day and even then I regularly miss days out.
