Can I have your opinions on breeding nets/traps please? My son has 2 plastic traps ( bought hurriedly when I found swordtail fry in tank ) but I have just seen in another shop a net which hangs on the side of the tank. As Ive now got my own tank & will be having some livebearers Im wondering which to get. Thanks.

personally I would keep away from the net variety, I recently found young fry in my cichlid tank, and moved them to a net trap, however the other fish can poke and barge the net and in a way they can get to the fry, so i lost all the young un's.......at one point one of the cichlids had a mouthful of net which contained one of the fry, so although the fry could not be taken thru the net, by the time the fish had let it go the baby was dead.

Just my opinion, I am sure someone prob uses the net variety without any problems :)

Thanks for that. I was worried that if dislodged the fry might meet a sticky end. With the plastic trap it does tend to keep floating if knocked.

nither.

get yourself a small 2-5g, and raise fry in that, if not let them look after themselfs in the main tank.

I personally have no problem with the hanging net ones. I keep a peaceful community freshwater tank and kept my platty babies in one when they were born.

I found that the holes in the floating plastic ones were too big for the smaller fry anyway.
