i've got a african butterfly fish and was looking for some food to feed him, he takes bloodworms but the problem is they all tend to sink before he can grab any, is there anything else i can feed him needs to be something that floats for a while.

it depends on the fish they are all different, i have a male betta with a pair of pearl gourami's , 6 phantom tetra's, 4 endlers with no problems at all but i'm fairly sure if i was to ask if this would be ok i would be told it wouldn't work.

i've checked the spec of the lights and they are indeed t5ho so i think i will order them and give them a go, it's got to be a lot better than what i've got now :)

i've been trying to think of a way of upgrading the lighting on my aquaone tank it's a deep square tank at 24"x24"x24" and it only has two 18" 15 watt t8 tubes so only about 0.5 watts per gallon, i've been looking at all my options and have come across this...

thanks it's sorted now i tried tipping the canister up and checked the cap on the fill hose the noise was till there but now it's dissapeared :)

they were light brown with fine hairs on them i'm not to bothered now i've binned the plant now i was just curious as to what they were :)

nope not snails definatly looked like some kind of catterpiller i had one out of the tank and it was was crawling along like a catterpiller does when it arches up it's back, they were burrowed into the stem of the plant.

i bought a couple of vallis plants about a week ago from my lfs, they started to look like something was nibbling on them and a few bits were coming off and floating to the top, but the i spotted something moving inside one of the leaves it's like a small catterpiller about 1cm long i've since...

it definatly won't cost that much to run i've got a energy meter attached to my tank at the moment it's a 220ltr with a 300watt heater a external filter using 20 watts and 30 watt lights on for 10 hours a day and it's working out at just under £4.00 a month to run. i know yours is a bigger tank...

sorry to hijack the thread but could i just ask a question about reflectors i was about to buy some for my tank and they are like a chromed mirror finish so from what i've been reading white is better, the lid of my tank is white so is there any point in adding any at all :)

thanks, three-fingers i think your right about the t6 tubes so i think i'll stick with the t8 and get some new tubes and reflectors and see how it goes and maybe add another light later if i need it. i've seen these tubes are they what i should be getting ...

i was going to replace the tubes anyway as they don't seem very bright and i'm not sure how old they are as the tank is secondhand, the t6 tubes are only a couple of pounds more than the t8's thats why i thought about getting them, i did look at maybe getting t5's but i need 18" and they don't...

my tanks lights are only 15watt t8 tubes x2, the tank is a 24"x24"x24" 58 us gallons and is quite deep, i've since learnt that you need around 1watt per gallon which i am nowhere near, the light unit is 18" and cannot find anything to upgrade it with, so as far as i can see my only option is to...

i've got a new rena xp2 filter it's been running for about a week it was almost silent at first which is why i bought it as it's in a upstairs bedroom but now it has a noise that sounds like trickling water coming from the canister this only started about a day ago i thought it would just clear...

i'm using a rena xp2 external filter, i've heard that there is no need to use the charcoal that comes with the filter so i left it out so at the moment the filter is running but with space to fit in more media ,ive looked on the rena web site and am a little bit confused as to what i should use...

i was about to buy some 18" t6 tubes for my tank which will be a planted tank once it's finished i can only find them at aquaessentials but they don't have any plant grow ones in stock they only have the daylight tubes in stock, do you think that this will make much of a difference, or can...

i need to buy new tubes for my aquaone t8 lights the t6 sound like a really good idea ,it mentions that for a jewel unit you need a brushings set any idea if i will need one for my lights i would have thought it would need something to take the space up with being a smaller tube. also is it best...

i don't think it can go on the outlet, i might not bother i just thought it would look better without normal heater inside the tank. :)

has anyone got one of these heaters it can go on the intake side of an external filter so will tidy the tank up seems like a really good idea, someone has suggested that as it will be heating the water that is leaving the tank into the filter that it won't be as effcient as a normal in tank...

that stand would worry me even more especially with my kidds running around

ok thanks for that ,i was just a bit worried by the fact there doesn't seem to be that much support other that down the two sides, but i suppose they will test these things first, they don't seem all that well made for the price that they charge.

i'm looking to buy a external filter ,it's for a 220 litre tank my budget is up to about £80 ,i've seen a eheim pro 2224 which it states will suit a tank of up to 250 litres do you think this will be big enough for my tank or if not any recomendations please.
