Your Fish Shouldn't Swim In Chlorine.....

Would the salt hurt your eyes when you open them underwater? Seems like it would be more expensive also, and let's face it, we can't spend thousands of dollars just because some people don't like chlorine.
Doesn't chlorine hurt your eyes? Makes mine sting alot?
:dunno:

Chlorine actually clears my face up after I go swimming. It's weird... anyway, I prefer to have it in public swimming pools. I know my brother and his friends pee in it. :X

We've got a 12 foot pool in the back garden for the kids, it's got a pump/filter and you can buy cleaning 'kits' now that are chlorine free (readily available - I got this kit from B&Q)... but I'm guessing they wouldn't be as effective on a larger (public) pool - either that or it would work out too expensive to go the chlorine-free route....
The reason you put chlorine in pools is to kill harmful bacteria. You could probably get by in a backyard pool because you know who swims in it but in a public pools, you have no clue what is in the water. Everything from blood to fecal matter. I definitely wouldn't get into a public pool if I thought there wasn't chlorine in it.

Even in your back yard pool, do you really know what is in it. Birds flying over and spotting the water, bugs in it and even stuff from the air. I've never had an issue with chlorine and when I was young I swam a lot. Like andywg, I want chlorine if I'm getting in.

Saltwater pools still have a bit of chlorine in them.

You just don't have to use as much.

We have one. :)

If anyone wants to know ratios or anything I can ask my dad, he maintains it meticulously.

Also, on a funny note, he told us when we were little kids that he put a chemical in the pool that if we peed in it it would turn the water bright red,. And yes, we discovered after some time that he was making it up :p

Personally, I wouldn't want to swim in a pool that DIDN'T have chlorine in it, if I knew other people used it. Human beings are yucky, we're full of germs. Oh ESPECIALLY a heated pool, bleurgh.

i'm not allergic to chlorine, that's what i originally thought the problem was so i went to the docs, but not allergic, no. My local pool is an olympic sized one, and it's chlorine free. Used to be chlorinated but the lighting system they use now is cheaper to run and works out safer, as they don't have to dose the pool.

It's an interesting topic

there are many ways to keep a swimming poll etc bacteria free,
my local pool uses something called ECOsmarte
but there are active oxygen systems (Persulphates) and silver/copper systems to name but a few.

That's hilarious!!!

 Well if you really want to know...

Many years ago at a large family BBQ my dad reminded everyone about it, and my little cousin (who incidently has ADD and oppositional defiant disorder and terrible behavioural problems - yet he's a freaking hilarious kid) literally said "I call bulls**t!

And promptly jumped in the pool....and proved his point .

It was a magic moment. We still laugh about it now.

More and more pool owners are converting to saltwater swimming pools. They are cheaper to maintain and much safer. I have dont lots of swimming in chlorinated pools, saltwater pools, and bacquacil (sp) pools. Nothing is better than saltwater.
The last time I swam in a salt water pool (that still had a chlorine added), I was attacked by large swimming beetles! They were around 2" and their bites nipped! I never understood how they lived in the pools, but we stayed at the villa with this pool for 3 weeks and they stayed in the pool for the entire duration!
