I was a big Laurell K. Hamilton fan, but her Anita Blake series went from supernatural/crime to supernatural/porno, which really degraded the overall quality of the plot, imho.

At any rate, I also like Mark Twain, Gabriel King, and James Morrow quite a lot.

I think my very favorites are James Michener, Anne Rice, Stephen King, Brian Lumley, James Clavell, & J.R.R. Tolikin.

......but I'll read just about any horror or mystery novel.

Or the mods forum, plenty of grouchy old monsters and cacking witches in there

My all time favorite is definately Stepehn King. Although I also like: Terry Pratchett, Dean Koontz, Peter Straub, Kathy Reichs, MaryJanice Davidson, Charlaine Harris, Anne Rice, Roger Zelazny, Michael Baden, Karin Slaughter, Piers Anthony, Robert Asprin, and many more I can't think of at the moment.

Robert Jordan-wheel of time series is great if you want to read a good fantasy, though he was written other books under different names (reagan o'neal is one i think) which i find odd
