Yf Can Taste The Salt..

I do have one, it essentially is the same as brittle stars but with more interesting patterns.

Not sure on minimum tank size though.

Mine rarely comes out from under the rock it shares with my emerald crab. Sometimes it does a circuit of the tank. I mostly see the legs emerge when feeding.

However I do know that if anything died, it would be there like a shot.

I checked Live Aquaria for you but there is no minimum tank size. I would think 1 would be OK, you often get brittle stars as hitchhikers on live rock.

I know im getting a few brittle stars with the tank.
Are they the same size as the banded sea stars?

Cheers for letting me know tina.
Oh, how much die off would you get on live rock in about 45mins to 1 hour.
Not submerged in water, but it would be damp.
What do you think? Major die off, or little die off?

YF

Well, I will need to try and find a container round the house that wont leak with the lid on.
Then I can submerge it in water.

only thing i would say is that if the sea star did not get enough food and was to die , they are quite a large animal so would cause a nitrate spike etc. and due to their tendency to hide away you'd be lucky to find it.

again don't know of a minimum tank size for one but IMO i'd stick to the little brittle star fish that you get with the live rock.

Vey good advice there mate, I will do that.
I think if I was ever to get a banded sea star now was when im well experianced with marine.

Do I need food straight away, or will they be ok for a week till next payday?

I'm only feeding the tank twice a week - so either of the above will be fine. More nutrition in the blood worms. They don't take long to defrost. I just put mine on a folded up piece of kitchen towel, wait for it to defrost and then as you say 'plonk it in the tank'.

They will only require a small amount - if you have some flake left over, that would do, they certainly would not have a whole cube and you can't keep it

Get the mysis next week with your next influx of money :good:

If you need containers poly boxes might be an option I know my LFS gives them away free

They leak - haven't you got a plastic stackable box somewhere, the ones used for storage. you could however ask the lfs for an empty salt container - just ask them if they could help you out, that usually works

I would use any of them YF, cuc really are not that fussy
